QuoteReplyTopic: Looking to improvise finger protectors Posted: October 16 2006 at 7:14pm
I have 8oz. of wagman to pretip and I need new finger protectors. I can't use the ones from dr.locks, and Kristen is out of hers. I wanted to try just the silicone pads, but can't find any of those either. So, can I find something to cut up or improvise with? Maybe kitchen stores sell something similar? Anyone have any thoughts? TIA!
No kidding? Medical tape? never would have guessed that one! I went to Walmart and picked up one of those silicone kitchen mits. I'll cut ii into the size I want to work with. It was $3, and I'll be able to cut a few peices out of it.

What about an office supply store - they have rubber finger tips for counting paper/money and stuff. I don't know if they'll hold up to the heat, but they may have silicone ones, too.

I got some finger protectors from lengthylocks4U on ebay for around $7. I think they are just a thicker latex. They work good for the heat, but I find them kind of sticking to eachother when I roll the bonds between my fingers, I wish they would just glide against eachother, it would be much easier to roll quickly. Do the silicone ones do the same thing?
I tried the finger protectors from Kristin, but I find that my fingers start to sweat in them which makes rolling the bonds impossible. Had to continue without. It's not that bad. I simply wait 2 seconds before rolling so the worst heat is off. Seems to work fine.
However I will definitely try the medical tape. Since it glues to your fingers rolling shouldn't be a problem.
Thanks for the tip, Gina

i would like to try the medial tape, but i am not sure what it is. can someone please tell me or show me a link. are there not all different kinds of medical tape out there or am i just over thinking this. are you talking about the white tape you use to hold on gauze? thanks in advance
I have done quite a bit of tipping with the silicone thingy that I cut from an oven glove. It works great! Cheap too, the whole oven glove cost me around $2.50. I can it into many pieces....
I also used medical tape and it worked great. I tried the little rubber things you put on your fingers for sorting papers, and it had bumps on it so it didnt roll too well. My suggestion is to wrap medical tape around your fingers a couple times. Plus its easy to work when they are on your fingers, you dont need to take them off and you can still separate the hair.
