QuoteReplyTopic: Wawa and Protacs? Posted: November 10 2006 at 3:34pm
Hey everyone. I just took down my wawa install with pro-tacs. I loved that hair a lot more than I thought I would! Except for it taking forever to dry and being scratchy and heavy when wet, it was so perfect! Plus, it's cheap!
So here's my issue. I installed, and washed I would say about 36 hours or so after the install, which is much sooner than normal for me, but I had something important and needed to look...well...no greasy... So then a few days later, the bottom slipped out, so I just took it out, then the ends lifted up on the top back part (which I ended up taking out.)
I ended up re-installing the parts that slipped because I had an event to go to, and wanted nice looking hair, so then, I waited over 48 hours to shower, it was actually about a week because I just washed the top part, and when I finally showered, everything was slipping again!
I am so frustrated, because I never really have had any problems with pro-tacs lately, and I was more careful with them this time. So then, I thought I would take down, so I did a little experiment, I didn't put anything in my hair, I just jumped in the shower and got them wet, and lightly pulled on them, and they came out! All except for the middle ones which I used a little conditioner to ease them out. I am so bummed.
So has anyone else had an experience like this? Was I doing something wrong? Is the wawa too heavy when its wet? Or is it just because wear tight ponytails at work?
I think it's the wawa for some reason, because I never had this problem. But I loved wawa so much I wanted to do more installs with it!

My wawa install was done with LG and it held great. I havent tried wawa/protac.
Naked Eye...are the protac coming out, or the wefts sliding out of the tapes? Are the tapes still attached to the wefts?
I put some pretty heavy weight on the protac with triple wefts of 22 inch hair so Id be surprised if weight is the problem. How many wefts are you putting on a tape?
Sherrie- The pro-tacs are coming out, not the wefts sliding out of the tapes, which is usually what happens to me.
I doubled the wefts on half tapes. I have also put a lot of weight on them before too, that's why I don't understand this.
But when I re-installed, I thought that might be the problem, so I installed 3/4 tapes with double wefts, and half tapes with only 1 weft, and they didn't slip as bad, but they did slip more than I would consider normal...

Perhaps there is/was some kind of oil coating on the synthetic hair that caused the tapes to break down faster? Since you had no trouble with your HH installs but have with the synthetic- I am wondering if the wawa might be the culprit. It might have some sort of treatment on it that does not work well with the tapes. I do not know about the manufacture of the Synth- so this in only a guess.
Better luck next time- it is always a shame when this happens. You get all excited and spend the time to put the hair on- and then , meh, you have to go at it again.

Yeah, I never had a problem before. I heated with a flat iron this time (which I never did before.) and pressed really good, and even on the scalp, I feel like I did everything like normal.
I had stored pro-tacs in a drawer. No different conditioner. The pro-tacs seem the same.
I think it might be something with synth, because before I had probs when I did a mix of synth and HH, and only the wefts with synth slipped...I think, but they still lasted a reasonable amount of time...boo...

In that case, yeah, it's sounds more like a problem of synthetic hair+Protac tape, but it's weird, I remember Aimee doing amazing install with Wawa or Outre synthetic and Protac and she never seemed to have any problem at all with the combination...

I use Protac half tapes and Plastikhaar for all my installs. I find that with synth you must not let your scalp get too greasy or the tapes will slip.
I think that may be the culprit with synth. It's a bit slicker than HH so any grease makes it slip more. If I don't wash the whole thing every 3rd day, then they slip at the next wash.
