Just wanted your opinion on what I should do about a client I had today.

I put in a full head of extensions for her and she seemed really happy with it as I was putting the hair in, she couldn't stop playing with the hair, which boarded on annoying because she was getting in my way whilst I was adding the extensions.

When she left she seemed fine and happy with my work, but 10mins later she was back at the door in tears telling me that she wanted the extensions taken out!

She said it was nothing to do with me and that she didn't want her money back, she just doesn't like the way she looks with long hair... She has always had short hair and doesn’t like the weight of the extensions or the fact that she'll have to straighten her hair to blend her kinky bits. If she didn’t have them taken out then she would just walk around with her hair in a bun feeling depressed.

I offered to take out that install and get her some bodywave to combat that problem but she didn't want to have them in at all!

She came across as though she was really repulsed by the hair .

So now I'm don’t know if I should give her all her money back because of how badly they affected her or should I just take the money for the cost of the extensions?

Is it bad of me to keep all the money as I did the job not knowing that she would only have the extensions in for 10 mins?

I'm really confused as to how to approach this when she comes back tomorrow to have the hair taken out, so any help would be really welcomed!!!

You are paid for the work you've done, since you did a good job aparently, I would keep the money.
I would recommend her to keep it just for a week though (she may be a little too emotional/unstable and change her mind again!), she could wear a ponytail and see if she gets used to it..

its not your fault she didnt think it through prior to having them installed. You did your job, she sounds a little off balanced to me.

You did your job, performed the service and it sounds to me there was nothing wrong with the job that you did. Keep the money girl, you earned it.

Did she look better or worse with long hair... can't imagine anyone looking that bad and not liking their new long hair.
Thanks,
JeepGirl

Current install-Bohyme Bodywave #30 and #14 in the straight hair/ they didn't have the #14 in bodywave, so I mixed them...works great!

i agree with everyone, if her problem had been your install then perhaps i'd feel differently.

honestly i've changed my hair in several drastic ways so it doesn't phase me anymore...but i go through periods of not changing anything and you sort of get sucked in lol - like it's hard to change and it seems "too much". then you give it a day or so and remember that it's fun to change.

i think it will be interesting to see if she comes back at all, she may sleep on it and like it, hehe. it's happened to me, more than once! and i bet if she has a significant other they'll tell her she looks fab....

Thats very odd, maybe she's bipolar.
In any case. you should keep your money.
I don't think you should refund anything.
Are you charging for removal?

Lol that is funny! But you could be right!

Seeing how bad she felt made me feel really bad for her. She looked really good in my opinion. She did have puffy hair on top but when I straightened it out it blended well.  I only put 14" hair in and trimmed it to just under 12" ish so it wasn't like she has 22" long hair or anything.

The whole way through the install I was telling how to look after the hair and what to expect, which she was totally fine with as she has her own routine that she sticks to by the book.

I wasn't going to charge her for removal, even though I should do really. I just don't want to upset her anymore.

I'll let you know if she does come back today and what happens

Weird, yeah, that's crazy, but you did your job. I was about to say maybe cut it shorter, because really long hair can overwhelm me (when you have short hair for years, it's like always getting in your face and you are sitting on it, and what not) but 12 inch?!

Yeah, maybe she will get used to it after a little while and sees it's really worth the work!!

Hmmmm...ODD!
I would not refund her the money. In fact, she said it wasn't about the moneyConfused
Could you maybe thin or layer it...just throwing stuff out there.
Maybe she'll get home, wash it, and get someones approval and be fine with it.
If not, you aren't at fault for someone changing their mind. For example, if you wanted your color from blond to dark brown, then immediately changed your mind...I would not give you your money back.

She wanted to go to her stylist and get layers put in so I'm totally confused at her reaction.

Maybe she never liked it from the off.... I really don't know.

But if you guys think that I should then I will keep the money. I feel like it's a massive waste of lovely hair.

Well... It's 2 days on and I've not heard a thing! Which leads me to believe that she has either topped herself (God forbid!) or she showed her friends and they have talked her in to keeping the hair in!?!?

Nicey- I think that it's the UK weather that gives people mood swings in this country! I really hope that she doesn't read this board and think that I'm sl*gging her off because I'm not. But she did just have an exorcist moment which I didn't see coming. I've never had anybody cry like that after I've done thier hair, it doesn't make you feel good at all.

I do find it so hard to keep my smile going when people are making your life difficult, is it just the UK where people do try and take the p**s or is it a world wide thing?

I had one client like that. She loved it so much, that she cried. When she got home, her hubby said, "what you're trying to look like someone else?' So she wanted them out the next day. My policy states 'No Refund, only Credits' and I would have credited her on a different method, but she refused to.

While we're on this topic...

My question-

Client buys method A. She hates method A. So I credit her on method B {which I did for FREE}. Client loves method B, but after 2 weeks she hates method B and wants to go back to method A.

Girls, I am not a buy one get one free meal here, ya know? How would you handle this client?

Thanks

If it's a health reason she doesn't like method B or because method B causes her pain, I could see doing method A at a discounted rate.
Otherwise, she's SOL IMHO.

Posse,

she got Method B for FREE cause she hated Method A, and now she changes her mind and wants Method A {the method she hated}.  One Freebie is enough.

cybermane- sounds like she is trying to get more freestuff- remind her she did not ike thew first method and that you dont feel comfortable putting them back in

badgalmel- take them out- no refund- i always have a contract signed by my clients so they know it is not healthy to take them out right after they are put in (this is for fusion). i put it in with there deposit agreement.
if someone wants them for a week or 2  or does not seem sure i go with wefts. what method did you do on her? oh maybe you can razor cut the extentions to a length she is happier with- what length was her hair and what length did you pit in?
