Are you talking about at the end of the braid?? If so you don't use a rubberband.. Depending on the braid pattern, you braid the hair all the way down to the ends. Then you fold the braid up where you want it (again, it depends on the braid pattern used as to how where you will fold the braid) and secure it in place with a few stitches..

Oh, I was about to ask a differen't question but i changed my mind about asking it and i ended up asking the question i posted, and I forgot to re-write the topic.
We use small dental rubberbands along the cornrow braid to secure the braid from slipping. Cornrow a few inches, stop and put in a rubberband and then pick up the same hair and contunue braiding your cornrow. Do this every 2 inches to the middle back of the head. Secure each end with sm. rubberbands, and use carpet thread to attach them together. Sew around and around each loose ponytail then pull them together and secure with a knot. Leave the ends of the cornrows loose, sew weft on top of it. Below you'll see the 2 loose ponytail ends sewn together in the middle.
