If it's a hard brush it would make your waves thin not crooked use a soft brush that relaxes your hair.

when i started waving my waves came in crooked cuz i used a hard brush.. along with many others.... dun give out false info for reals... hard brush creates the wave pattern faster but does not help connect... soft brush connects but takes a longer duration of time for the pattern to form..... medium does a lil bit of both...

as stated by LDIZL, a hard brush does make your waves come faster if you have really nappy hair or long hair so that the brush does not harm your head.
follow these rules when using a brush:
light brush : used when you have a short hair cut
med brush: used after a couple of days when your hair grows... basically for example use this brush after a week when you have got some more hair on your head when your in the middle stage of getting your hair cut.
for example: when you look at LDIZL's picture you would either use a soft or med brush.
hard brush: for nappy hair and long hair only. using it when you just got a low hair cut is NOT recommended. used on deep waves
