Any tips on requesting blade numbers?

I'm trying to get a haircut somewhat similar to Chrisdog's. When I get my hair cut, he knows me well, so he cuts my hair short. But my waves aren't that visible. I should say something along these lines, "I want a blade number 3, dark cesar." And what is the difference in blades? #1, #2, #3. How should I request this hair cut?

or if you want to be careful about it just ask for him to cut a little off all even and see if its good if not ask him to cut a little more off, u feel me?
