QuoteReplyTopic: Going blonde, best home hair colour? Posted: February 12 2007 at 6:58am
I used to dye my hair blonde but it never really ever turned out the colour I wanted, always a bit brassy. Im dark brown at the min but would like to go back to blonde for the summer. Im a poor student so its on a budget and I cant go to the hairdressers to get it done. I have a pre-lightener knockin about the house somewhere but after I use it I was wondering whats the best home hair dye to get it a nice light shade of blonde. I dont wana get 1 from sallys, just a box 1 coz the measurments and stuff would confuse me.
If the measurements are worrying you, I'm sure people here could help
you with that. Usually you just get a plastic bottle to mix it in
there that has the numbers written on it to help make it easy.
If your hair is currently dyed, you will have to remove the dye before
doing anything else. The dye won't lift your current color.
If your hair is natural right now, and if you lighten your hair to
yellow with your lightener, you'll need to put ash over it to make it a
nice shade of blonde. If you were getting your stuff at Sally I'd
say get a violet base blonde dye, but I don't know about box
colors. If your hair is already yellow and you buy ash, you'd
probably be okay. Its likely that a blonde "ash" will mean a
violet base - but test strand to be sure before doing your whole head, with everything you
use, because thats just a guess, and you need to make sure your
lightener is going to get it light enough, not just to orange, and that
it won't be too damaging to continue.

You dont have alot of options then, but you could use Loreal Blonde supreme (that is supposed to lighten hair up to 3 shades to a light blonde) as well as Les Blondimess.
When I was a blonde i used blonde supreme in (I think?) extra light natural blonde. It was always a bit more golden instead of white looking,so I'd alternate between that and Champagne blonde every couple of months.

What I currently have is jerome russell b blonde high lift powder bleach and I still need to buy the cream peroxide. Im a bit weary of this tho coz my friend used it before and her hair broke off all around the front, though I think my hairs in better condition. I have a little dropper of UNRED which I assume you would put in2 the 2nd dye b4 you use it? Im not sure which if I want to use a perm colour at the min or a toner or semi perm coz I dont want my hair in really awful condition. I love the L'Oreal casting creme gloss but I'm not sure what colours of blonde there is in it.
Its probably not a good idea to use that (bleach), then use a high lift
dye after that. It would be very bad for your hair. Its not
absolutely necessary to use something as harsh as bleach to remove your
dye, is there any way you can get a box of One n'Only Colorfix?
Its got peroxide, but not alot and its way better for your hair than
bleach. It would remove your dye, leaving your hair either orange
or yellow, at which point you could then use a regular dye over it.
If your hair comes out orange, you may want to colorfix again
until you get it all to yellow (test strand that though, make sure its
going to work before doing it). Once its yellow all you need is a
dye with a violet base to go over it. If you still want to use
only boxed dye, you should probably call the company that makes the dye
and ask them which of their ash blondes has a violet base (its the only
way to find out with boxed color). That's if your color-removed
hair is Yellow though, not if its orange.

No,no, I definitely didnt mean to use the high lift color WITH the bleach! That would be bad...I only suggested the high lift color cuz I didnt realize she was planning on using bleach. I only meant it is a possible option if she didnt want to use bleach.
