I'm 16 years old.  Since the age of 3 my mother has been perming my hair.  I used to have long thick hair until I start doing it myself. Now i decided to take the perm out my hair.  I have not had a perm since Dec.27,2006 and i have been using a hot comb.  I've tried using flat irons but it seems as if it does not work.  Since I start using it my hair has start growing but yesterday I went to the salon and got it cut.  All I want to know is the hot comb good for your hair.

Please please get a flat iron!  The hot comb is going to rib your hair. Don't brush it a lot and don't use a lot of heavy oils on it. The hot comb is not a good choice except to get to the edges that the flat iron wont be able to reach.

Why did you decide to grow out of the perm? I think it is a great idea, I did the same thing.  I take breaks and wear my hair in up styles, and twists up do's, and braid up do's so I am not putting a lot of stress on my hair because the heat is not good for it either.

Well I had a flat iron but it seem like it did not work.  Maybe if I  find the rigth one then it would work.  But I decide to grow out the perm for many reasons.  My mother has not have a perm for 3 years and her hair it down to her bra strap.  Also I learned about how the perm can be bad for the hair.  But I went without the perm for a while but because i was on the step team i put the perm back in my hair.  But now I have my mind set that I no longer wnat the perm and i want to get my hair back to the length it use to be.

A pressing comb is not good to use on permed hair. First of all the heat is too intense and its hard to regulate the heat with a pressing comb. In a flat Iron you should be looking for one with ceramic or tourmaline plates with heat control settings. Since you are transitioning make sure you are doing regular deep conditioning treatments to prevent breaking and before using heat ALWAYS protect your hair with a leave-in and some sort of heat protectant.

I don't know about your area but I live in the South. JCPenney has hair care here. A hot spot here in TN. They have a really good flat iron...it is pricy but you would never want another one. You can also go for a good electric one like the golden hot brands....just be really careful with the temp. Just because it doesn't feel hot to the touch, it is probally hot enough for your hair.

When I do my hair I pretty much get it nice and smooth. I don't try to make it bone straight. After my hair cools off, it just relaxes on its own and when you put your moisture and products on it it looks good.

PS.  Don't forget about lots water, supplements, exercise and eating the right foods.

Well I live in SC and i do believe that the JCPenny has hair care.  But when i do my hair i don't like it too straight.  Just enough so I can do something with it.  But now i need to work on eating right.  Since I'm only a teen its kinda hard to eat right.  And I do deep conditioning bout every week or two.  Is that good enough
I'm not gonna give up this time!!! My hair is gonna grow no matter what they say!!!

Probally, but you do need to use a moisturizing conditioner when you are not doing a deep conditioner.

Hey Deon...if you have a bed bath and beyond in your area I would encourage you to invest in a maxiglide flat iron...it presses the hair using ceramic plates and the hair comes out silky smooth. just be careful with the heat temp...I just learned my lesson lol
