I'm hoping that someone out there has some advice for me.  I've had an issue with my hair since puberty, more than a decade ago...

Essentially, the bottom layers of my hair don't ever seem to get clean.  I've tried regular shampoo, clarifying shampoo, swimmer's shampoo, chelating shampoo, vinegar, chelating treatments at the salon, highlighting the bottom layers, etc, and nothing seems to work.  The bottom strands, no matter what I do, feel and look greasy the moment I get out of the shower.  I don't know what else I can possibly try!  And though

For the record, I don't use styling products because I don't want to contribute to the problem, and I only condition the ends of my hair (which is currently longer than my shoulders).

Has anybody ever dealt with this type of problem?  Any suggestions of something new I can try?  I've asked pretty much every person who has cut my hair in the past 10 years, plus friends, family members, etc, and I'm running out of options!

I'm crossing my fingers... Thanks for your help (I hope)!

Are you getting the shampoo on that part of your hair good enough?  My hair is thick and sometimes I find it hard to get the lower back of my head clean.  It's helpful to occasionally throw my hair forward and wash it upside down (like once every week or 2).  Also, make sure you're rinsing quite thoroughly.

Yeah, I'm pretty conscientious when I wash.  It's the kind of thing that, even sitting freshly washed in the chair at the salon, the stylist notices it.  Unhappy  I just am not sure what to do...

Lather, rinse and repeat...  and repeat... and repeat.  Concentrate on massaging the scalp in the problem areas and be sure to use plenty of hot water before applying the shampoo and while you rinse.

Try using a harsher shampoo than the elite salon brands.  It sounds like you need something like Dawn dishwashing liquid except for hair.  The closest thing I know of is Prell shampoo (original formula).  I think that stuff will take tar off a car bumper.  LOL  It's not a shampoo I would normally recommend someone use on their hair but in this case I think it might be just the ticket.  Anyone remember this stuff???  The concentrate formula has alcohol in it which may help you because of its estringent properties.

I wasn't sure the stuff was still made so I did a little checking. It used to be owned by Procter & Gamble but they sold the brand in 1999.   Evidently, it's still sold at Walgreen's, Walmart stores, K-Mart, Osco, etc.
