i am 47 years old and have fairly long dark brown hair....it's coarse and it looks like i have broken hairs but i'm not sure if they are or not... my hairdresser says it's in good shape but it's got some natural curl and it's usually frizzy if i don't curl it.i was wondering of the Emergence by Nexuss is good to use. It's kinda expensive so i hated to spend the money if it wasn't worth it. I color it every 2 months with the natural instincts to cover the gray....it needs it more often but i'm afraid i'll harm it if i do. thanks for your help

I have issues with my hair breaking off from too much dyeing with permanent dyes. I had to quit that since my hair is in such severe shape, plus I desperately want to get my natural color back
But yea, while searching for something to help repair my hair at least a little bit, a few people who have used Emergencee told me that it's definitely worth spending that much money. I guess it works very well.
I personally didn't try it. Someone else suggested that I try the Redken Extreme Deep Fuel Treatment... It's cheaper than Emergencee (I think), only about $15... and five tubes come in one pack. You're only supposed to use it about once a month of so. So I figure $15 every five months is definitely not that expensive.
Though it's not a miracle product by any means, it did help repair my severly damaged hair a little bit. I would try that first since it's cheaper and definitely worth a try if your hair just needs a protein treatment, which it probably does since you dye it.

Good luck!

i only use the semipermanent color because i thought that wasn't as ahrd on my hair as the other. Think i'll give the Emergencee a try and see how it works.  thanks for the advice

It sounds like you are confusing 2 different issues.  If your hair is frizzy, you probably need a styling product to help it especially since you have some wave.  Plus, your stylist is saying that it is good shape so extra conditioning like emergencee is probably not necessary.

Second, Emergencee by Nexxus (or any of their products) is very heavy and will weigh the hair down (IMO).  If it works for you, then use it but I can't imagine you needing it since you are only coloring your hair every 2 months.  That is for very damaged hair and your hair isn't very damaged.

There is nothing wrong with coloring your hair as long as you take care of it.  A color shampoo and a conditioner for color treated hair should work fine even if you are getting your hair colored every month.  Semi-perm color is hardly damaging at all.  It is only depositing color, it is not opening the cuticles with developer.

Does hair color "damage" hair.  Yes.  So does the sun, wind, acid rain, pollution, blow drying, etc.

Unfortunately, you might have to do some detective work.  There are many good products out there (although I'd recommend getting products from a salon) and you'll have to find something you like.  Everyone will recommend something different.  Sometimes stylists will give free samples / travel sizes that you can try which are free or very inexpensive.

I prefer Aveda and Abba because I like the smell, how they work in my hair and so forth but everyone's different.  I have read bad reviews of both products on this board.

Emergencee is not a conditioner is a protein treatment. It will not weight your hair down because you have to shampoo and condition your hair after using it. If you color your hair is actually a great idea to use the emergencee once a month. Hair color, even if it is semi- perm will cause some degree of damage to hair. The protein treatment acts as a bonding agent filling in the damage spots. It will not soften hair. It is not designed for that. So you must use a good quality conditioner afterwards( otherwise your hair will feel like straw). Follow it with a deep conditioner and your hair will look fab! The conditioner will take care of the frizzie problem.

I use Emergencee and it is deft. worth it. I heat style my hair and texturize with a thio relaxer, and it keeps it from breaking, and keeps it looking healthy and beautiful. It is a good product. You can also try Joico Deep Penetrating Reconstructor, Redken Deep Fuel or Sebastian 2+1. They all work wonders.

Good conditioners to control frizz (they work great for me) are Redken All soft heavy cream and Smooth Down Butter Treat(but that one I only recommed for really curly frizzie hair). Also Matrix slick line in the orange bottles are very good. But you might want to go with a shampoo and conditioner for color treated hair. I don't have much experience there, but I hear Pureoroly is great (but really expensive). If there is an Ulta store in your area, they sell sample sizes. So you can try it before you buy it.

Good luck and great hair!!!

I would like to use a deep conditioning mask or a hot oil treatment...something to leave on for an hour or so and wash out...i only wash my hair every 3 days because it's coarse and dry...always has been but at the same time it's soft feeling and very shiny...kinda weird i know. I would also like something besides mousse to use for the natural curl when i don't use my large curling iron  sometimes i just want to wash and go

Dont use hot oil treatments, they do more harm than good. If you want to use oil, use organic jojoba oil. Oil your hair and you can leave it in for an hour, or overnight, which is even better. Or you can try adding a few drops of the jojoba oil to your shampoo or conditioner. You won't believe the difference after a few uses. For deep conditioning all you need to do is use your favorite conditioner, cover your hair with a shower cap, and go under the dryer for 15 minutes. The heat will open up the hair cuticle allowing the conditioner to penetrate. Since you color your hair, make sure is a conditioner for color treated hair.

If you want to use something other than mousse you can try some Sebastian Potion 9 along with Sebastian Laminates gel. They are expensive but will keep the frizz under control and the Potion 9 will condition the hair as well. Another great product is Bed Head curls rock. I personaly use Potion 9 with Salerm Lamilux spray. The lamilux is super expensive but is the only thing that will keep my curls totally frizz free when I don't want to blow dry my hair.

Give them a try
