QuoteReplyTopic: My Ends Need Help Posted: March 31 2007 at 7:49pm
Well since im tryin to get my hair to grow and look good I decided to go to the the lady that used to do my hair when I was little (and it was long, almost down to my waist, thick and had lots of body). So since I've been busy I finally went yesterday after about a month without seeing her. Well last time I was there I have to get my ends cut because they were split and then this time I she had to clip a few of my ends because they were split. So now I'm wondering what can I do in order to keep my ends from not spliting.
I'm not gonna give up this time!!! My hair is gonna grow no matter what they say!!!

Try doing the baggie method. This is where u put your hair in a ponytail. U then put moisturizer on your ends and then put an oil over the ends to seal in the moisture so it doesnt evaporate as quickly, then u put a plastic bag over the ends to trap the moisture in. U can do this at night. This really helps reduce split ends. I just recently started doing this and it works.
well what has worked for me is jojoba oil and virgin coconut oil, use them both or just the virgin coco, make sure you sleep on a satin pillow case, even if you tie your hair up, keep the ends oild at all time (2 time a day if possible..just lightly.....I never get split ends even with the relaxers try changing your shampoo from the harsh ones sold at beauty supply houses....go get Aubrey-Organics, many selctions and conditioners without any harsh chem and toxicans
Never brush or comb your hair when wet. And be gentle when you do comb
- don't just tear through the hair. You could try fingercombing first
to get the bigger knots out. I keep the ends oiled, like simpires said,
but I use coconut oil. Although, oil does make some curlies hair drier,
so you have to see what works for you. Be gentle with it!
dont give up....I had the same frustration, I turned to wigs, becusae my hair was thinning and just coming out....But all said and done, my internet research paid off.....I first found a book called....go to UBHpublications.com
get the book or go to amazon and get the book at little cheaper "Growth II"
this is where I began getting my help, after I read it, I will admit I tried her product....I was still losing hair....so just rcently I discovered the natural oil asa moisturizer and I am please and I have not yet changed my not so good eating habits....
Good Luck and let me know
oh, also, take measurement of your hair now and check it again in 6 mos...see if you have new length....and no trimming, once you cut the split ends, dont keep trimming as the slaons tell you...thats crap. yu will never have any length

Speaking of... I have been so tempted to trim my hair lately. There is this stylist I know of that is amazing at cuts and I wanted him to trim my ends and give my hair some shape. But my hair has grown quite a bit and I'm concerned about what will happen if I trust somebody in my hair again [IMG]smileys/smiley5.gif" align="middle" /> Maybe I will wait a little longer... [IMG]smileys/smiley24.gif" align="middle" />
In my last reply to you I mentioned UBH...get the book well worth it, u may not use every tip she gives you, but 98% you will find works. Her conditioners is all she sells and she will not recomment others products, but you have search yourself for your own products that work....But anyway my point was to she tells you not to keep trimming your hair, thts y u r trying to get your growth, you keep cutting it it anit gonna get ther,, hair grows from the scalp not the ends...o what it may get frayed....Just look at her before and 6 yt later and she had a relaxer all thattime.
I am like you a want my ends to look straight, but guess what if you dont have split ends, DONT CUT....if you keep oil on the tips you will deffinetly not get splits.....put the coco on the tips or the jojoba.......I found that the Virgin Coconut oil keeps my hair soft and silky between washing....I was 1-2 times per week.
Well I don't know if I can get the book (only 16 and have no job) but I've been doing lots of research and I'm finding ways to help me. But for now I have my hair done in twist and I will keep it in for about a month or a little lnger because I don't have much time to do my hair right now with school about to end and worrying about all my class and then going to Altanta next month. But since I'm not really messing in my hair and I oil my hair my ends should be fine. But before I got my hair done I was seeing a difference with my ends.
I'm not gonna give up this time!!! My hair is gonna grow no matter what they say!!!

Hey Deon09, I started to notice splits a few months ago because I was using a waaaay too hot temp on my flat iron if you use alot of heat that may be why your experiencing splits? Moisture is the way to prevent splits...I love Salerm 21 or Neutrogena Silk touch sealed with oil. Good idea getting twists this will give your hair a rest
Well when I do wear my hair out I only use heat about once a week because I really don't like doing much to my hair. But I really think it was because I needed more moisture because after I start to use more my hair start getting better. But is B.B. Oil moisturizer with castor oil and aloe good for your hair. I asked because thats what I use and I know it has my hair looking and feeling good and thats all I put on my ends.

HI DEON, I tried that and also used it on my little girls hair, but I just found that every oil moisturizer I used would only last part of the day, my hair would be dry all over agin. I been thu African pride, carrot oil, their shea brand, QP, but all seem to just soak up and not last and then I would have so much build up from constantly putting on the oils.....
remember none of these oils should be on your scalp.....but they would get on my scalp and then I itch....so I just wasnt happy, until I read on the jojoba and the coconut oil
I did order the pure shea butter, but, to heavy and made my scalp itchy also.
if you can not get that book ask someone to buy it for as a gift, or save up and send a money order to get it. this book is helpful I hair issues, natural, weaves, braids, ect

Hi im a cosmetologist that specializes in healthy hair. anything with oil is not good for the hair. We think when our hair is dry we need oil, and all oil does is sits on top of the hair weighing it down and making it greasy. the opposite of dry is wet, so therefore we need to moisurized. Joico makes a great moisturizing shampoo and conditioner (blue bottle). if your hair is laking shine , your cuticle is busted!, due to chemical process, heat, etc. Joicio also make a cuticle sealant which coat your hair with a fake cuticle to keep moisture in, try it out ! guarentee it will work. Remember whenever your performing a chemical service you are lifting the cuticle and pulling out keratin (protein) to restructure the strand. So you must put protein back in.
yes I totally agree with you, moisture is the #1 key to soft hair
BUt still it all depends on the type of oil- One has to understand what oils of differnet types do and how they work and their chemical make up....
If that JOICO work, that is good. But know look at the ingredients, go to ewg.org and look at the health risk, that may result.
Many people wonder why they have some ailment or another, have to look at the skin/hair products we are using (not to mention what we eat) But at least start with what cosmetics u use every single day of your life. from lotion, toothpaste,DEODERANT and hair.
I for years until say 35, thought I had dandruff really bad, dry itch scally scalp...tried all kinds of stuff....I ALso had has Allergies really bad, sneezing, clogged up like I had a cold all the time. ..GUESS what when I stop using shampoo with SLS my condition cleared it self.....still got itchy and dry scalp once in a while, but that come to find out was the other hair products getting on my scalp, clogging pores, which will cause the natural oils from sebaceous glans not to work.......to this day, with my relaxer, no dry itchy scalp. So it is possible a lot of the other chemical in hair products did not agree with me. I also have no more allergies Please check out EWG.org...Since you are a cosmo, u should be aware of what you ar using on clients hair people.
Check AUbrey, they are one the #1 leading safe prod on the market, acnt not get it in beauty supply...only health food or their site. TRY it

I ended up trimming my hair myself. I have been scorned! I don't think I will let anyone put scissors in my hair again! My trim came out nice and it is still long!
Hey Deon I am not familar with this product but if it contains mineral or petreleum oil it is only blocking moisture out. For ends only I love Qhemet Alma & olive heavy cream or pure shea butter because they are thick and creamy like grease without the bad ingredients so they help seal the ends. Also sweet almond oil is suppose to help prevent split ends...you can try using it on your ends nightly or even as a hot oil treatment. HTH

I second the baggie method, ive been using this method for a while with great success.
The baggie method really works. You can wear the baggie for an extended period of time by sandwiching your hair between the hair on the UPA Clip. www.laceflair.com. The wet and wavy is a perfect one to use. It looks totally natural like the hair is coming from your own head.
