I’ve finished that do-it-yourself eyelash extension tutorial I’ve been promising. Sorry about the delay!

Once I started wearing these I won’t be seen without them:

Thanks, Nursie. When I started writing the thing I was amazed at how many little technique-y things I'd discovered to get those lashes looking perfect. Once you've practiced for a month or two, it gets so easy. I actually think it is FUN to put them on! But then, I enjoy scouring sinks, too!

Thanks, Tangles! Yep, especially in the learning phase it is quite time consuming, and can get very frustrating too. But I figure the time I don't have to spend messing with mascara (and getting mascara flakes in my contacts) isn't too much different from the time I spend applying the fakes. And with the fakes I get to look great ALL the time! With my hair and eyelash extensions I feel like a soap opera star now when I wake up in the morning.

You don't use Lash Tite do you? That stuff is evil!
If you use something different, that would be awesome! Clap

Nope! There is a different, newer (and more expensive... I think about $15 a tube) adhesive called Everlash. It has hardly any odor and is really easy to use. It has its own solvent that works pretty well at getting the glue off. Like with hair extensions, you have to be patient and work gently, but I can remove a full set of about 14 lashes on each eye in about 10 minutes.

Yeah, I was reading the Eyelash boards at www.MadameMadeline.com and discovered that a lot of people seemed to prefer Everlash, even though it is quite a bit more expensive. Apparently the cheaper adhesives are made in China of inferior ingredients, and Everlash is made in Germany of medical-grade ingredients to be safer for your eyes.

Kristie,  I couldn't wait for your tutorial.  I got my lashes from MademeMadeline and did them myself on Wednesday.  OMG I love them!

Monsterita, I'm so excited that it worked for you! Just expect to fiddle and futz for awhile until you get the routine down for yourself. A month or two and it is as easy as putting on makeup. And yay! No more mascara!

I bought a really nice 8x lighted mirror and it made it really easy (except for that tricky left eye since I'm right handed).  It only took about an hour.

Good for you, Monsterita! Yep, really good light (I have a desk right up against a bright window) and a magnifying mirror will make all the difference. And yep, the opposite eye from your dominant hand is more tricky at first. Then you get a sense of the angle of approach for those lashes and it gets easier. I've found when you're laying down the outer flares on the non-dominant side it helps to switch to a regular magnification mirror (mine flips with mag on one side and regular on the other) and have another mirror at an angle so you can see how the fake is actually pointing from the side compared to your natural lash. I either do it while I'm laying down the fake or I check it immediately from the side once I've laid it down. You need to correct the angle while the glue is really wet.

Oh that would be so much fun. I'd love to be able to give one-on-one lessons on how to do it. I think in CA I'd have to be a cosmetologist though, wouldn't I?
