I'm not sure long hair makes you look thinner. If you're thin, you're thin and if you're not, you're not. You know? I've never seen an example of slimming long hair myself, but then again maybe I just didn't notice.
I do agree it seems easier to take care of. When my hair was shoulder length it took a lot more time to get it to look right.
Long hair is beautiful, but only if it's looked after properly. And I love the way it touches my back!
1. It's just plain *beautiful* 2. Most people don't have it, so it makes you unique 3. It makes you look thinner 4. Even if the rest of you is pretty godawful ugly, you can always have beautiful long hair if you take good care of it!

I love long hair because in my case it is must easier to keep. I never have a bad hair day because if I feel I do my hair would be put into a ponytail or a bun.
I also want to add Dave that lately I had the experience of seeing before and after pictures with men with long hair to short and in both cases I found the men were more attractive with long hair. ONe was a doctor and the other was a musician which are both friends of mine and wanted to share their pictures with me.

I like the look and feel of it. It makes me unique. Very few women over 40, in a professional situation, or any situation for that matter have long blonde hair down to their butt! I have never been one to be "like everyone else" and am continuing in that line! I can change my look by simply changing my hairstyle from day to day, or hour to hour if I want. It's beautiful, feminine, versatile and makes me stand out in a crowd. My mother in law used to say when the children were in a school program, she would come in and look for my hair "shining like a beacon" to find where we were sitting!!!
Before I got my hair cut into layers (which I'm growing out), it was a couple of inches below my shoulders. I just really liked the feeling of hair on my back. The longer strands also complement my face well, such that my facial features aren't so prominent.
I second Lyris about the high school situation. Almost every girl at my school had shoulder-length or longer hair. I was determined to be the unique one and got my hair cut shorter and shorter. This continued through college, until my last two years when I just decided to let it grow. And now I'll let it keep on growing!
I like having long hair because I can tie it into a lethal ponytail that serves as a weapon if I whip my head around fast enough. You never know when you'll need a little personal protection.
Interestingly, at my high school girls with long hair were NOT "different," or even the least bit unusual. Ninty-five percent of us had shoulder-length or longer hair. The really unique ones cut it into pixies or short shags. Short hair was a distinction. Now, four years later I'm working in a corporation where my shoulder-length hair is the longest in the building (except for Max, who has long dreads.) Suddenly my hair got "long" and I never changed it! It's all relative.

It's fun to know you're that more unique, since everyone's long hair has more chance at variance. In high schol, there was a kid my age, only 2cm shorter with the same haircut and almost similar glasses..... :(
I am not a clone.
I hate all of the following and lots more : Fundamentalists, racists, sexists, fascists, ageists (people saying seniors = senile , kids = stupid , 18 = immature or a combo of them), and bigots for causes yet to receive their own designation.
Long hair simply makes me feel feminine. When my hair is in good shape it's very nice, and it makes me feel pretty.
And I love smelling my own freshly-washed & conditioned hair. I love touching it and feeling it's softness (especially when I use All-Soft!) Bet I'm not the only one out there who does this!

Because it's the most beautiful "assecoire" that someone can have, even wearing just a jeans and T-shirt, long hair gives me the feeling of being a real lady.
I'm now growing ou a layered "thing" (juck) but ... I'm getting somewhere, my hair is gently kreeping to my shoulder blades and I enjoy every step of the process
first goal: shoulder blades, then bsl, then waist
