It says you can cut it to the size you need, which sounds great to me. I just want something really small to fit over that spot, so the top of my hair looks natural. I then will probably fill in the rest of my hair with some subtle extensions of my choosing.
I imagine I could sew clips into that 'magic self weave' and wear it that way. But since I've been also looking at skin wefts it got me wondering : skin wefts are on a Mono base, right? skin wefts are applied with tape onto your hair close to the scalp. Could I use the same tape on this 'magic self weave' and apply it to my hair around the perimeter of that thin area?
I guess the point would be to achieve a more comfortable bond than with clips, and perhaps a longer bond, needing to be redone every couple weeks (?). I don't have first hand experience with any of these items, so can anyone think of reasons that wouldn't be a good idea? Thanks

Ouch. That biopsy didn't look fun. I feel very lucky now that they decided not to give me one. I hope your docs are figuring things out for you.
The magic self weave looks pretty neat. I can see two potential problems. 1)I seem to remember you wanted to make sure you could part your hair easily, if you used the magic self on top of your head, you would not have a natural part. However, that said, since it is trimmable you might be able to work something with it so you natural scalp shows by trimming it down the middle. 2) it says it is hand-tied. I don't know about this particular prodcut, but I do know when it comes to regular hand-tied wefts it is not advisable to cut them if it can be avoided because they can unravel slightly. Typically this is prevented by very very carefully cutting and dabbing the cut ends with nail glue to seal them.
It looks like you should be able to use tapes or glue like liquid gold to hold this item in place. You would get longer wear out of a tape or glue than clip-ins in terms of how long you can leave it on your head at a time (ie, you don't have to take it out at night) however, becuase you will be continually washing and wearing the hair, the hair itself will not last as long unless it is of very good quality.
I'm not quite sure what they mean by 'mono' base but hopefully someone else will.

actually I've narrowed my plan of attack down to just wanting to cover the circular area at the top of the crown (coincidentally the area i have circled in the photo ). My hair on top more towards the front is still thin, but if i part it on the side its ok enough. I think i should be able to use skin wefts or something to make that fuller.

Yeah that is a part that confuses me too. how can it be handtied and yet you can still cut it? I guess I will not know until I can inspect it personally.
I guess my main area of uncertainty is I'm trying to combine the world of hairpieces with the world of extensions. Previously I was only researching hairpieces, and from what I'd read my only options were shaving an area and bonding directly to the scalp, or getting a hairpiece that was slightly bigger than my problem area and using clips. Never had I read about taping or gluing directly ONto hair until I started reading about extensions. So, I don't know if I'm breaking any serious rules by wanting to tape an actual hairpiece (though very small) to my actual hair.

Its probably monofilament, the material that is the base for alot of wigs and hairpieces. mono is pretty sturdy but theres thinner (and more fragile) lace to be had.. and you can't bleach the knots with mono. so you end up with lots of dark dots where the hair connects to it. That is also a concern. If i can tape mono to my hair without problems it makes me wonder if i could thereby tape lace..
I cant help but think i must be missing something or more people (who have my problem and dONT want to shave their head) would be doing it this way.

Maybe some seamless hair would work with your top area?...
I wont know for sure until i start experimenting with seamless, but Im pretty sure they still need to be covered by some hair. They would be totally exposed on that top thinned crown area, and I think it might look pretty obvious that they are wefts.

Closures work best when they are clipped or sewn on... If you were covering a large area with no hair present, then bonding a closure would work well.. Since you aren't suffering from alopecia or another form of hair loss, I would actually suggest that you look into a lace frontal versus a closure to cover the affected section of your scalp.. The lace frontal can be bonded to your forehead and still cover the affected area without compromising your hair.. When properly installed, lace frontals look VERY undetectable! They would give you a very natural looking hairline and part.

why dont you just part your hair differently? You could always get a couple of wefts after that
Im not sure I understand you.. No matter how I part the hair at the top of the crown, the thinned area is always exposed. I cant part the hair to hide it.

Forgive my obtuseness. But why wouldnt tape work too? If people tape wefts of hair to their hair, can I not tape a small hairpiece or closure?

Actually I probably have Androgenetic Alopecia..

I will definitely keep that in mind. I really want to cover up as little amt of my own hair as possible though. Pitiful though my own hair is, I want to keep the front and top as it is and cover that crown spot with something realistic looking and comfortable.

Missdistress, I really don't think you want to mess with tapes or His and Her hair. I don't know which hair they use on that piece but I'm guessing it won't last.
Here's my advice. Get a top piece from a reputable company, ie: Extensions Plus. They will match your texture and color perfectly. Get the piece sewn in or use clips. I would get it sewn in by someone who will be gentle with your hair. It will be THE most natural way to go and you'll LOVE it. You'll be able to part your hair because EP's base looks like a scalp. It's completely NATURAL looking. AND their piece will last you a long long time.
I see you going down a road of major waste of money by trying the His and Her's thing. It looks bad in the picture. You'll be endlessly buying sh*tty pieces until you finally invest in one that looks right.
Go over to BHM and read read read. Those ladies know the best of the best hair and methods for what you're looking for.
BHM is another hair forum - BHM is short for black hair media. I don't seem to have the link bookmarked though, but you should find it quickly with a google search.
They are VERY knowledgble about various types of extensions, closures, everything, you name it. I often lurk over there for info.

Very true. However the tapes allow the wefted hair to move freely so it looks natural. Tapes will not adhere a closure tightly enough over loose hair to give a natural look or feel. If you want the closure to look the most natural if needs to fit somewhat snug on your head. Clips or sewing the closure in place are the two best methods to acheive that and give you a more natural appearance

I didn't get that from your OP.. I stand corrected..

That's going to be difficult to do and maintain a realistic look. Keep in mind that a closure and/or lace frontal will not blend into your own natural part seemlessly (this is what I gather you are attempting to do). There will be a delineation between the closure/frontal and your own scalp if you attempt using a partial closure. Closures and lace frontals are a replacement for your natural part. If you go over to BHM you'll see that we have discussed that very fact quite frequently..
There's an excellent thread that compares closures and lace frontals on BHM: FAQ: Closures vs Lace Frontals 101. See if this helps.. There are lots of other great discussions on the topic of closures/frontals on BHM as well..
