Is this the same stuff guys were using to cover their bald spots a few years back? Invented by Ronco, the gadget guy?

Diva- i had a gal when we first bought the shop  that did braids-  she stayed with us for a couple of years, her friend opened up a smaller salon so she went with her- i refer her lots of clients to do weaves and braids. seeing how difficult it really is and trying it- i think at this stage of my career, i will pass on the braiding myself and hire someone to do that and i Do want to learn the lace fronts though. i think i just need to buy one and try it on someone, i dont even have a clue of what to look for when buying one.
Cool beans.. This is why I'm a confirmed salon princess.. I am not interested in this stage of my life in learning how to cornrow and doing my own installs..

As for "Lacefronts 101", a for GREAT place to start is the sticky notes in the lacefront section of BHM.. There is a lot of good information there.. It would be a great place to start getting the 411 on lacefronts.. Here's another down and dirty 411 link for ya: Lacefront Structure

Tangles if you change your mind about learning to cornrow check out the sites below. If you can plait/braid hair you can cornrow. I don't know about your area but out here in Maryland one of our community colleges teaches cornrowing techniques. Yours may too.
I've seen some how to dvd's and video's on eBay you can try those.
Nicole Lasher teaches a couple of classes online. I don't know how good it is but it's cheap.

you are so right about braiders Diva- i interviewd a stylist to come and assist in salon, she said she had been braiding since she was a little girl, and just got out of beauty school.  Braiding those tiny teeny braids intrigues me to no end, but my hands would never work like that! That reminded me,a few weeks ago i did a consultation on  a AA woman. She brought her little girl with her and ended up trying to teach me how to do a corn row, oh gosh was that ever fun. I couldnt do it...
I give all braiders mucho credit. Its amazing how tiny and straight and tight.
Yep I told ya girl.. I have met VERY FEW licensed stylists that also do braids/weaves who have not been "doing hair" since they were little girls.. These are my FAVORITE kind of stylists.. They come to you with YEARS of experience under their belts, and they are usually the most creative and innovative stylists around.. So are you guys going to add a braider/weaver to the Tangles Salon staff?? How cool would that be!!

How's that going?? Are you still going to pursue this??

Yep it really is that simple.. It still requires a little skill and practice to make sure that the lace is flat so that the application looks natural.. But it's REALLY easy to do..

I wanted to see if the wig challenge---was for laced fronts but it sorta seemed like they were making wigs with closures and such, but I will look again I know MHRW sales a kit.

I would like to have a video, detailed, instructions, I hear it is quite tedious, but I would make my own if I just knew how.

The wig challenge you are talking about on the weave forum was for regular cap wigs.. But on the LaceFront forum there have been a few threads which discuss making lacefront wigs.. You could try doing a search, but I know the search function on BHM sucks.. If you try searching by subject, you might have more luck getting the search to work there.. The only catch is that not everyone creates subject titles that OBVIOUSLY indicate what the content of the post is about..

Hi Tanglles. BHM has a wig making topic that has pages and pages of instructions. They figured it out and learned how to make their own. You should check it out.

Sourgirl one other thing I found since I read you are in Jersey. Its called hair blending but I dont know all the details. Im guessing its big $$$ but you can probably go for a consult either in person or on the phone. Here is the site and I think BHM forum talks about it at length.

http://www.sequencehair.com/_home/index.html

Yes Anomis I agree and it took me years to figure that out unfortunately. Dont bother to gussy yourself up for a man, do it for yourself. And have you ever noticed on TV very often on sitcoms and such you see these beautiful looking women with butt ugly men?? Whats up with that? Off the top of my head I can think of "King of Queens" but I know there are others.

By the way, Sourgirl speaking of King of Queens, that TV show, the female lead, her name is Leah Remini, she wears Hairlocs but mine never looked as good as hers thats for sure so with her money, she is probably swapping out the hair a lot for fresh and having stylists work on her.

LOL..thanks, I didn't think this thread would lead to this, however the consultaion did not go well. I went to this salon which was the size of my closet and she started showing me synthetic hair which I stated would not match the texture of my thin caucasian hair, so I left there. I went to another place and are thinking of hair locs..any one try them?
OMG,
well aren't you happy you have choices......SmileBig%20smileClapSmileTongueBig%20smileClapClap
exactly what are you trying to get, weave, individual extensions, ........
I take it..... it's not a do it yourself type project????Shocked

I think walking away is a great thing, don't throw that $$$ away.

My post got swallowed up so I had to make this larger.
Couldn't you bring your own hair to the first stylist? How much does she charge?

She charges $25 per track and said I would need about three tracks. I think she was annoyed or something I don't know. I actually go to an african american woman to color and cut my hair, she said she would do a full head of hair locs for $500 with hair. I actually trust her since she got my hair back to a healthy state after the GL damage I had. But I decided to go to one more consultaion with a hair loc lady who the hair loc site recommended and she does it out of her house. I really want to do alot more research this time.
