I don't know what hair type I have and what are the best products i should use for my hair. what should I do as for as a weekly regiman for my hair to keep it healthy and grow long. my hair is currently just below the ears but I would like for it grow longer about to my bra strap and longer once I learn how to care for it. please help i'm doing sometheing wrong!!!!

I am now 4 days post relaxer and all is well so far.A little background...I was all natural for several years so this was a true virgin perm. I had it done at an Aveda concept salon by a professional and I believe she did a great job. While my hair is very straight, I still have good body because I got a roller set. My hair dresser did tell me that Mizani is the other perm they use regularly depending on what you want to achieve. The sensitive scalp formula did not burn at all and I was careful that she did not leave it on past the recommend time. I did make a conscious effort not to scratch and to comb my hair minimally for the proceeding 4 days as to prevent burn. I also had a professional Aveda protein treatment the week before to strengthen my hair and to prevent breakage. I see very little flaking but will lightly oil my scalp as I see and to prevent dryness. I see almost no hair pieces when I use my very wide tooth comb.(I have always tried not to use other combs (only very wide) and only brush the edges minimally with boars head when and if I need to) She used Aveda light elements on my ends and I also purchased it. I like it because it keeps your ends moist but does not weigh down in my opinion. I have also used it in the past with a iron out. I plan to go for a touch up in 8 to 10 weeks if I can stretch it that long to prevent over processing. In the meantime, I will try to go every two weeks or so for the Aveda 3 step and a roller set and do it on my own in between.
Let me know what you decide and how it goes.Good luck!

thanks for your help. does mizani have sensitive scalp relaxers. I burn with lye relaxers. does your scalp burn when you relax your hair. If not what do you do keep comfortable.
Your hair should never burn from a relaxer. It seems as if someone isn't applying it correctly. No lye relaxers aren't healthy for your hair at. Read Shamboosie's blog and book about healthy and maintainable hair. He's been a hair stylist for over 25 years.
Tell us about your hair care regimen. Do you wash once a week with deep conditioning? Do you perm at home or go to a salon? Tell us about how you're caring for you hair on a monthly basis and we will will help you find a solution!
Hello there, when I relaxed my hair with affirm my hair was so, so dry and stick straight with no body. Mizani was alittle better but my hair was always underprocessed...best relaxer I used was Silk II HTH

I just permed with Affirm SS formula for the 1st time today. Their was no burn and I had virgin hair. My hair was very straight upon rince out. I followed with a deep conditioner. I saw just a few flakes tonight but my scalp had been very dry in the same spot previously. I had a roller set and wrapped it tonight. I'll keep you posted.

I would like to know if anyone have ever used the affirm relaxer. if so how did you like it.
Finding a new perm can be very hard. Experimenting with those different chemicals can get harsh on your scalp and hair, but you've got to do it until you find "the one". Good Luck

It's been years. I use Mizani. Design Essentials is the last perm I got. After a few days my scalp looked like someone poured corn flakes on my head. Very disgusting. So, I use Mizani because it has more essential oils and conditioning.
