Yeah, I told this lady at a hair salon how I wanted my hair, and she totally KILLED IT. There are some areas that are 1-2 inches long, and the longest my hair gets is to my shoulders. It's all choppy, and it doesn't make any sense AT ALL! Another thing is, my hair is dirty blonde with lighter blonde highlights. I searched around for the clip-in extensions, and I understand them, but I called this hotline and told them about my problem. She said that since it's so short, I mostlikely won't be able to blend it AT ALL, or it'd be REALLY REALLY HARD. I can manage my hair now, but it looks really really crappy, and it's not how I want it. I was thinking that I could dye it all black, and then get black extensions? I mean, is that what I should do? Would it blend well? My hair is really, really embarassing. Please, please help me ASAP!!CryOuch

Can you post some pics of your hair and a pic of how you want it to look? You don't have to dye your hair black but you may have to use a technique other than clip-ins.

And I can't really describe how I want it. I just want normal extensions, prefferably to the middle of my back or something, and then have it styled. But have you seen the "scene girl" hair? that's what I'm aiming for.

Ok, well I don't know what 'scene girl' is, but I totally think you could pull off extensions.  You don't need to color your hair black either.

Read about the different installation methods, there is a ton of info here, as well as on www.hairextensions101.com.  If I were you, I would opt for a wefted installation, either a bodywave or french refined, something with a wave that will stay waved.  You will probably need upwards of 6-8ounces of hair.  I say this because for 2 reasons.  1, you look to have thick hair and thick hair always requires more extension hair to blend.  2, you are going to have to do some serious layering to blend in those really shortie layers in your own hair.  Thats also why I recommend something w/ a wave or curl to it, because when you layer it, you will have a lot of little layers and it blend better, while still giving you the length you desire.

If you are concerned about color matching, you can get 2 different colors of hair and blend them together.  As far as hair goes, you could try a synthetic like Elite Thermofiber from www.shrinkies.net or try the mix and match bohyme from www.hairextensions101.com .

I don't know who the 'scene girl' is either. Send us a pic of her hair too.

She layered the heck out of your hair. I know it's not what you wanted but did you want a layered style to begin with?
   Where are you from?

I think you can totally wear extensions! Your hair looks healthy and thick, so I don't think you'll struggle with blending.
You should try a tape of Liquid Gold (my favorite) methos with some wefts. I recommend some Bohyme bodywave or Silky straight, rather than FR, from what I see of your hair texture. But I guess you can determine this yourself. I agree with Asinnamon, read a lot, as much as you can, on the forums. Check out the install pictures to give you and idea of which texture looks like what.
You can also make clip ins yourself, you'll find a lot of info on that too! If you want to make a research on a particular topic, there's a "search" button just for that on the top right of this forum.
Good luck!

is this the kind of cut you mean?
or something like this perhaps?

yes both can easily be accomplished with extensions. I agree with Frenchie and he others who suggested using wefts and tapes or Liquid Gold - they are very easy methods for beginners and considering the choppy cuts in your hair I think it would provide the best coverage. Clip-ins would work nice also (but you MUST remove those when you sleep or they WILL damage your hair)

and you don't 'need' to dye your hair black, don't do that unless you actually want to - extensions can be found in any color found in hair color, including funky colors. sometimes it is easier to get a similar color in human hair and redye it gently with professional products (ie not a box from a drug store) since it can be hard to judge that type of thing online.

It looks like she gave you a short shag haircut when you wanted an a-line cut with choppy angled layers. If you add some longer wefts in the front and shorter wefts in the bach in a variety of blonde and light brown colors, you will have the "scene girl" look you are after.
I love shrinkies.net's elite thermo hair. Their blonde colors are great!

Good luck, let us know how it turns out.

It looks to me like you have plenty of hair for extensions and I was picturing far less so i would take these ladies' advice and I think you could easily pull off kind of a "punky" or goth look if that is what you are after but it doesnt have to be that. You have a lot of options with color and texture but you will need to find someone GOOD who can work with the shorter layers.

Oh my. I started getting extensions 3 months ago because of a haircut almost exactly like that. I never considered extensions until the haircut from hell. My hair is thick also and the lady cut me a horrible choppy mullet.  I know you probably don't want to cut any more off- but depending what kind of look you want to go for with your extensions, you may want try and find someone that can try and even it out a bit. That's what I had to do, but I did my extensions so my hair looks all one length. So, they had to chop my mullet off ( it was too horrible for words....I can't wait for my hair to come back!) That pic that Bunny Wabbit posted is awsome and if you did something like that, you wouldn't have to worry about losing any more length in another cut. Anyway- I know how you are feeling and once I got the extensions in I could look at myself in the mirror again and I feel great.
