I own many books about hair. But the last I bought is : Hair structure and chemistry simplified.
It's made for students , but we find in it many informations about the structure of the hair, what happens to it when we perm, color, bleach, shampoo, cut and so on. It contains many electronic images.
As a long hair lover and owner, I really love to know maximum detailed information about hair and treatments. I developed my love for hair with your site and it continues.
New, the book is at high price. But I found mine, used, at adebooks.com
It was just to share it with those who are maniacs like me about hair knowledge. Hope it will be useful for some. Bye !

Like I said on abebooks.com, the price is as low as $10.00 for used book . 286 pages ( in USA ) But you don`t live there as I see...
For exemple, in the book, they show that the tip of the hair is rounded 6 months after being cut. It's already visible after a month. It has sharp ragged edges when it's freshly cut.
They explain that the hair cuticles close in mild acid solution. It's why it's good to rinse with diluted vinegar (acetic acid) or lemon ( citric acid). It removes the soap and minerals in water.
In alkali solution, the cuticles open up and let the solution penetrate to the cortex. Damage may be caused. It's why coloring, perming, bleaching is rough for the hair.
The hair cortex is made of protein chains , but there are some amino-acids free . So, it's useful to use a protein treatment to help the hair keeping his moisture, because these free amino-acids hold the moisture in the cortex at a desirable level of 10 %.
The resistance of the hair is due to his high sulphur content (4-8 % ). Raw eggs are rich of it. In an other book, the recipe the man recommends to drink daily is : 3/4 cup of milk with 1 raw egg and a tablespoon of wheat germ oil, and some other things. (emulsified in blender). A little bit difficult to digest. ( The book is : Healthy hair and common sense - Dale Alexander) The book is for men who have trouble with baldness, but his diet and informations are good for women like me, too.

Wow, thanks for sharing all this great info. A raw egg shake, though, good grief! The only time I ever intentionally ate an uncooked yolk was on a flight to Moscow when I thought it was a peach.....Thanks again for sharing!
