Yeah. I mean I dont regret GL really. Now I can say, hey I tried it and it didnt work out for me. I will still pay for it. In fact I am on plastic as we speak now lol. I kind of feel the same with Hairlocs. I tried it and its out of my system. I think now I want to try sew ins. Thats totally new to me. I am also trying a new kind of hair with it to see how it is. If I dont like it, then I can say hey, I tried a sew in and didnt like it lol. I will probably go from there to using a weft with glue or tape or whatever else is next. I agree with you, hair extensions are VERY live and learn and no one size fits all. Im sure there are folks out there that simply love GL. More power to them.

i just typed a novel and it didnt post!

thank you all for all of your help!

i am definitely willing to try a new system. in my case it was definitely ignorance...before this board i thought there were basically 2 systems: GL and lower-class "weaves" really....but i have definitely since learned otherwise!

i would like to have a professional stylist do it since i have no experience choosing color or anything of the sort. i am just concerned because my hair is naturally curly (i straighten it) and avg/thin texture. i feel like it will be much harder for someone with my hair type to find a good system that blends as naturally as possible.

also, my hair has been the same color(s) for my past 5 installs, i do love it! i dont know if i should try to go back to one color, but when i schedule my appt my stylist orders the same 3 colors.

i just want something that blends naturally with my hair and that is relatively inexpensive (compared to GL anyway) as i already have about $600 saved up. i keep GL in for 5-6 months which ive also learned isnt a good idea from this board.

id like to post pictures if anyone can help with that! Smile

would you like to try it yourself, maybe with the help of your sisters or friends, color matching is easy. you could do a full head installation for around $200 depending on length and texture

i would be willing to try it myself if i knew the ins and outs of where/how to buy hair and how to apply it correctly i suppose...would it really look as natural as GL given my hair texture? im trying not to be close-minded about anything!

yeah maybe even better, girls here have been disappointed lately with GL's hair. We'd need pics to help you pic color and texture though.
Do you want fusion again or did you want links tubes or wefts this time?

it doesnt matter a WHOLE lot to me....fusion is all ive known really....the dome method kind of interests me....im really not sure, and im also somewhat nervous that my hair might be thin when i get the GL out. should i rest in between? i just know that since ive had them taken out and immediately put back in for about 2 yrs, my hair always feels thinner. its either genuinely thinner or i just feel like it is because im used to the extensions being in...makes me nervous. anyway, can you tell me how to post pictures? i cant seem to figure it out

I've never posted a pic but I'm sure one of the girls will tell you how to today. Resting your hair is up to you, I never did. Who's taking them out and how much are they charging you? Did you want to remove them yourself?

UCFX I just got 3 wefts sewn in of the Russian in 20 inch straight dark brown and its fantastic. I love it so dont write off sew ins. I did get the micro hand tied wefts and they are so small and slim. I am actually loving it WAY more than strand by strand. It has plenty of movement and this hair is a perfect match to my texture. I can even pin it up on the sides because the rim of the sew in is so undectible. It like magic! Im very pleased but good luck with whatever method you choose.

i was planning on waiting until i had the $1200 saved up...i dont know if i could handle taking them out and not getting them put back in right away. its actually $1085, including the price to get them taken out....they just use some great lengths solution and a device/tool that looks like pliers....i can really do it safely on my own? i mean sometimes my flat iron seems to do a fine job without any solution!

the solution is acetone. I prefer Onyx Professional 100% Acetone from Sally's, but that jusy my personal preference. Some use orange oil to remove them.

The tool used are pliers, just make sure they're non cutting pliers. You'll need a good little spritz bottle that won't melt from the acetone. Crunch with pliers, spritz with acetone, wiggle to remove, comb out residue. Simple as that. Test it on a bond somewhere in the middle where it won't be noticed. It takes me about 15-20 minutes to remove my own.
The flat irons will smear the glue making it more time consuming to remove. You can remove them with the fusion iron which is much much quicker but I would have a girlfriend do that because that can smear too and would leave you with a gigantic mess to remove.
You can use a phony pony in between installs.

I don't know much about the GL but I can tell you from experience reading this board you CAN learn to do it yourself and buy the quality hair and have it look more professional then any supposed A listers hair.  for cheap!!!!  (in comparison to what you pay)   I personally love the tape method.  I use only two rows double wefts and have plenty of thickness.  I know its a personal preference but for me I love it!  any questions please let me know I have tons  of pictures of all types of hair,  I seriously have tried them all... (well maybe not all)  but close...    Smile

Your hair looks really nice with the GL actually! Its working for you in my opinion. That color you want to switch do would look good i think and yes, usually the darker you go, the more reflective the hair is to light but too dark can make you look goolish and bring out tones in your skin you dont want. You can also mix colors and go lighter around the face. Ive seen that done and it looks great but you gotta go to someone good who can help you blend.

I love your hair Tina, I think it looks really good, and natural. I personally would not change the hair color, the one you have looks very natural imo.
I think to remove GL bonds you need more than pure acetone though -from what I have read before- you need some alcohol solution, you should do a quick search on this board on past posts because I m sure this issues has been discussed before. Type "remove GL bonds" with the "serach" option, you'll find a lot of infos.
I am useing Liquid Gold right now and Bohyme hair and I love htis combination. The hair looks great for several months -I usually like to swtich after 4 months- and the Liquid Gold method is so easy and cheap too.
If you're willing to try to do extensions yourself, there are a lot of good otptions out there.

Thanks Frenchie!!!  I'm still wearing the Russian.... I could never go back to anything else!!!....  love, love, love it!!!!  and for me, so far the hair has never  gone bad!  Don't have to do anything to it to keep it soft and bouncy. (I'm a lazy extension wearer!)     I  just have to buy different lengths for when I get board.  Smile

 I so highly recommend it!!!
