QuoteReplyTopic: Straightening wet hair? Posted: July 14 2007 at 10:10pm
I've seen straightening irons that are designed for wet hair as opposed to dry hair, but how does that work? I have a ceramic one that i'm afraid to use if my hair is damp at all because a couple of times i've held it in one place a second too long and I hear the hair sizzling. I'd imagine that using it on wet hair would be disastrous and would kill my hair within a nanosecond.
So am I doing it wrong? When I straighten my hair, I put the iron near the roots then slowly drag it down to the end, then it's done. Should I not be doing that and instead pull it quickly multiple times? Could I use my ceramic iron to straighten my hair when it's wet?

Do not, and I repeat, do not use flat irons on wet hair. Even the ones "designed" to do so seriously damage hair. At the begining it will look great, but after a couple of months your hair will be destroyed. Try the Conair hair designer hair dryer instead. It kind of performs the job of a blow dryer and a flat iron at the same time. You will have better results and your hair won't suffer as much.
Always remember to use a leave in conditioner. Sebastian potion 9 works great for me. I mix it in with either Sebastian laminates gel, or drops, or with some Bed Heat Catwalk Fashionista Heat and Iron safe. It is the purple stuff. It is really really good. But you can find whatever works best for your hair type.
I blow dry first, then flat iron. I use Redken heat glide before flat ironing. It is the best stuff ever. Depending on your hair type, that might be all you need.
Also use a good rich conditioner. Redken Butter treat works great for me. However, that is one conditioner that your hair will either love or hate. Redken Heavy cream might work better for you.
