I have been trying to get a light brown hair color and my stylist and myself have tried colors that end up with alot of red in the result.  I have olive skin, hispanic and dark brown hair.  Right now (I colored my hair using Feria tonight) I used a light golden brown color and my hair is a light to medium red.

How can I get rid of the red and get more light brown with sun-like highlights.  Thanks for any help!

*sigh* I have a similar problem too. Dark hair and been wanting light brown hair or at least something inbetween light brown and say medium brown.

I've used Loreal Preference Ultra Light Ash Brown, as ash is supposed to neutralize the red but that really didn't turn out quite as well as expected. My hair would look different colors, but it wouldn't be red most of the time. Under the sun and some lighting sources it would, and under others it would look like the Light Ash Brown on here:
On the dye I bought [for the Ultra light Ash Brown] it looked much like the "Golden Light Brown" which misled me and I purchased ash to neutralize the color. Now I'm considering using a golden dye but worried it will turn out red, as it probably would..

But yeah, you could have tried an Ash dye which is supposed to cancel out the red.. have you tried a dye like that before?

First, there's something weird about Feria...I'm not a pro so I don't have a great understanding about what, maybe someone else can explain it.  It may be harder to mess with, so if you do anything I say, be sure to test strand it to make sure it will come out okay.

In general, you guys need a light brown with a green base.

"Ash" is a general non-golden term, and it seems to be used on a lot of different shades.  Its often the case that if its a brown dye called "ash" it will have a green base, but not always.  Don't trust boxed colors to be green based when they say "ash".  Either get your stuff at a beauty supply shop like Sally where the base is written on the bottle, or call the company that makes the boxed color and ask them which dye has a green base and will counter red.  It seems that lifting too much may make it go more orange too, if you go over it again with a light brown, be sure not to lift too much  (use 10 volume developer maximum).

Try the Sally brand, I think it's called ION in a green base.  It's supposed to be really ash...no red whatsoever.

Good luck!
