i ordered 3 oz. of the russian (which IS beautiful and also smells fantastic), bc from the pictures the wonderfully helpful ms rocket sent meSmile, it looked like plenty! i havent had it wefted yet so maybe that's why, but it looks like so little! now im reading ppl use anywhere from 6-8. but my hair IS a little on the thinner side so maybe it will be enough once its installed? should i order more? that'll put me out another $350! Confused

TongueTongue  Thank you !!!  but I really think it's a personl preference... some like 7-8 ounces and then some are perfectly happy with 2!   I started out with 1 1/2 ounces and loved my extensions and moved up from there.  I personally use about 3 ounces and I'm very happy with the thickness... anymore then that and I think it's just toooo thick for me.  (but that is just for me)  so really it's what you get used to... when I had 4 ounces in and went back to about 3 or little less...(what is in my avatar) I thought it was  sooooo   thin... but in a few days I was like this is perfect!!  it really is what you get used to!
Current Install: European hair two rows triple wefted on bottom double wefted on top, with Protac

Hi. I had just figured you were going to be pretipping and decided against wefts as you said you ordered bulk Russian?

I ordered 3 wefts and that was about 3 oz. We got the same length also I think. Yes, it is thin looking but once all three are sewn in. It looks quite nice. It depends what look you are going for also. if you want high volume, you probably will want to ad a 4th. if you want it on the thinner side, then 3 oz should do ya.

From that site they do a hand tied weft. Its quite small. Do you want to now send it out to be wefted someplace else? Fill us in girl lol.

UCFXtina,  what length did you get with 3 oz? was it single drawn or double drawn?
TIA!

how much really depends on a few different things. And also personal preference.

Length of extension hair. The longer the  extension hair, the more ounces you will need.

Length of your own hair. If your own hair is longer, you can use less, since you wont have to cut in or do as much layering. If your own hair is shorter you will need more (ounces depending on how long the extensions are) and you will have to do more layering to get a good blend.

Matching volume. If your hair is thick/full you will need more hair to match the fullness or you get the 'mushroom head' effect. If you hair is thinner you can use less hair.

I wear 8-11 ounces of straight hair 22 inches. Anything less than 8 and I feel like its too thin and dont match the volume of my natural hair.

I had ordered 3 oz on my last extension I thought the same thing. It's not enough hair! But once it was in it looked fine plus I had some left over. I used a strand by strand method which they are falling out left and rightCry, but it definitly was enough.

i have 20" virgin medium brown. after the responses ive received i think that should do me, i hope! ive attached pics of me in previoud posts...but i dont think theyd help here as im wearing extensions in all of them lol. i used to get great lengths so i am wondering how much she used...she refers to them as "bundles" so i dont know if she even knows what it is in ounces, and the last time i saw, it was before i knew anything about other methods or ANYTHING so i couldnt really guess to any degree of genuine accuracy

Ya that whats I remember you saying. You ordered 19-20 in bulk correct? I ordered 3 wefts 19-20 in dark brown so we got the same amount of hair just mine wefted was the only dif. I got the single drawn which means it looked a little jagged on the ends. Was yours like that? If you didnt specify that you wanted double drawn (more expensive) then its a mixture of lengths but presumably, nothing shorter than 19 inches. I ran my hands down the length and it was useable hair and exquisite condition from root to tip. Although once installed I wanted it just slightly evened and you may want that also so then I ended up with 19 total inches.

From what i can tell on your GL photos, your natural hair up top is a little fuller than mine but you also have naturally curly hair right and you straihgten? I think 3 oz will look great. Its very smooth and silky and lays nice and natural looking. Dont sweat it. Say you want it a little thicker, no prob. Buy another ounce. or you can always do one weft of a different texture to bulk it up like Indian maybe. Im thinking of doing that at some point but right now Im happy. You will love it once installed!

Oh good! I hope not a lot of breakage with that. Yeah let us know how that EP weft is and post a photo of it before install if you can to compare size. I just went with the micro hand tied they show on the site. Its pretty small to me but then someone else saw it and said it was huge. I confused as usual. All i know is its staying in and not shedding so thats important.

i definitely will! btw i got the double drawn so it was all one length. when i got it, i thought it didnt look like much as i said...but after taking my GL out last night i realized it should more than enough! and like you said, if not, i can just order another weft...im just having issues trying to decide where to go to have my color done as im going to feel REALLY weird asking a stylist to dye my hair along with the chunk of someone elses hair i bring in to match! lol

No you shouldn't feel weird. So many people now a days wear extensions most stylists wont even bat an eye. That is if they do them. Not all stylists are trained in it but the other thing is you are wanting to color the wefts and that has nothing to do with the application of them. At least I dont think it does? I would guess since its virgin hair all the stylist needs to do is color both your hair and the wefts but you better check on that to be safe. Ideally you would want to go have the same person color that will do the sew in but that can be hard because not everyone does both. Like the lady that did my sew in, hates color and doesnt want anything to do with it. Something about the fumes bother her too much now since shes been working with hair for many years. I had to respect that but she is great with braiding.

I wanted to ad this. I hope its okay but maybe we arent allowed to post stuff:

http://www.diyextensions.net/viewtopic.php?t=183

If you go there, she has a step by step on coloring the Russian wefts yourself if you choose to try it on your own. I think I would because it doesnt look very hard. Just make sure you use very good pro color and nothing from the drugstore.

well i know there is a lot of controversy over installation method, but I've chosen to use Protac. but for the coloring i think i still should probably find someone who DOES sew-ins so that they are familiar with wefts and what not. How do i go about doing that?? i dont think i want to dye it on my own just bc ill probly be getting some kind of highlights and i wanna leave at least THAT to the pros:) lol

Yeah i agree. its one thing to just do all over color but highlighting can be trickier and best left to pros. They might actually do the highligting after install? I dont know. Now you need to find someone that does sew ins and color. Hopefully you are near a big city. It might be a chalenge.
