I am on the never ending search for a good curling iron. I just want to make some curls at the end so the hair isn't always stick straight. I'm not talking big banana curls here though. Anyways, I have a cheap curling iron from conair. It makes great curls but it dents the end of my hair! I guess it's from where I clamp the hair, it gives it a funny (ugly) looking dent! I have tried placing it several different ways to avoid the dent but it doesn't work. Am I doing something wrong or does my curling iron just suck?
I currently have 18" d-lux installed in #2.

Hi,
Have you tried rolling the hair around the OUTSIDE of the clamp? It is a little more challenging but if you are careful you get a good hot curl formation but no dent. Robert Hallowell taught me this little trick and it really works. I am curious, which Conair do you have? I love their hot rollers.
That which doesn't kill you makes you stronger or drives you totally insane. :-)
I know how you feel! I have had the dent problem before when I used a curling iron and when I curled my hair under with my straightener. It took practice until I got it perfect, haha. Try a bed head curling iron in 1 1/2". It works really well and should give big and full curls. I also think it will help with the dent :)
I posted a thread about how I curl my hair a long time ago. Let me see if I can find it....
Ah ha, found it! I use a very inexpensive connair 1" curling iron (about $15 at a drug store). I don't use the arm on the curling iron and I don't get a crease. I've got a picture of how I hold my curling iron and written directions in the 2nd post I made on this page:
