Hi, I'm Karen and I new here and to the hair extension world. I got Satin Strands extensions last tuesday, I went to an extension specialist. We used the the weft sewn into the cornrows. When she was braiding it, it was pretty painful, that night was very sore and for the next few days, was this normal? she said it was. Sooo, considering that fact I had to go very easy on the shampooing, I do every night. Now a week later has gone from hurting to itching, because my scalp is healing??? because it hasn't been washed properly? I absolutly love the way they look, I have very fine hair so these are great!!! what can I do about the itching??? I do have an oily scalp, I want to keep these, any advice????? Thanks, Karen

I'm kind of new to sew ins myself but it sounds to me like she braided your hair too tight. Some people have used witch hazel to calm down the itching. Keep us posted!

Thanks for the advice! it did help. Do you have sew ins? if so how long now. These Satin Strands are really nice and I've had virtually no shedding so far. Did it hurt when you got yours? Thanks!

I've been doing the sew-ins since this past February. I'm very happy with this method! Yes, the first couple of days it's uncomfortable and I take alieve. Every time I get the sew-ins and I'm dealing with the tightness the first couple of days I think to myself "am I crazy???, why am I doing this?" and then when they get comfortable I think "I love it!". I have two tracks with two wefts on each track.

How many tracks do you have? Do you really have to shampoo your hair every day? I would try to wash it every other day if possible. The less the better and the longer your install will last.

I only have one track I think you call it and she used three layers. I shampoo everyday because my scalp is VERY oily but I just try to wash the scalp and do not really wash the strands. How often do you go to redo them?

Hey there
I get them re-done every six weeks. I could probably go another week or so but I don't like when they get too loose.

One reason your hair might be very oily is because you wash it every day. Your scalp compensates for the loss of oil. If you go to washing your hair every other day, after some time you'll train your scalp not to produce so much oil.

Hey, thanks for the tip! What brand of hair do you wear and how is the shedding? have you had any damage to the hair that has been cornrowed? I know I'm full of questions! this is my first time, I love having thicker and more hair. I have also heard that you should go every now and then without them, wow I would hate that now go back to thin hair! yuk!

No problem!
I'm wearing Giovanni hair right now. I just got my install yesterday and I'm really loving this hair. I will post pictures when I take them! No, I'm not having shedding. Is the Sally's hair shedding?

Yeah, you should probably take a break but like you said, yuk. I haven't had any plans to take any breaks!

Do you mind if I ask how much the hair is and where you get it? I got the Satin Strands from Sally's because this is my first time and didn't want to spend a lot of money in case it didn't work out. It's been over a week now, maybe see about 3 hairs a day roughly if that, I guess not bad for $75 hair actually 65 with my discount, they're on sale this month.

I spent $45 per ounce and that came wefted. I ordered 16" wavy. It was actually 19". I was wearing the Russian hair but to be honest, this isn't a whole lot different yet it's significantly cheaper.

I ordered the hair from Giovanni and Son, it's the Italian hair.

Is your hair straight?

Yes my hair is bone straight! I've used the pink foam curlers at night as you're not suppose to use anything hot, the curls stay in till I was my hair, don't have to use hair spray or setting gel! not bad for $65 hair! This cheap hair is actually very impressive!

OK another question! Instead of getting another track can I just add some fusions?
