My natural hair colour is a medium brown. Okay, so I have had my hairstylist put blonde and red highlights into my hair for the past couple of years. I am still in highschool so I have to listen to what my mother wants partially. I don't really want my highlights anymore but my mother does not want me to dye my hair fully either really (And not sure if I would want to because of damage it could cause anyways). So, what I am wondering is aside from the obvious of letting it grow out, is there anything I can do? And if not, how can I make my hair look alright while it is growing out? I don't particularly want to have the top half of my hair a completely different colour from the bottom of my hair. Thanks for any help.

I always just have my hairdresser foil in my natural color--leaving some highlights& when my roots are really bad, I have her put in some really subtle blonde higlights so it's not as stark growing out.  there's some root, but it works better than just stopping cold turkey

That sounds like it could work. But what would I ask my hairdresser for to make sure she knows what I mean? I'm not sure I really understand what you get done.
To anyone else, still open for other ideas too. Feel free to let me know, anything can help.

Tell your mom that if u color it, it won't hurt.I could understand if u colored your hair alot in a short length of time, but u haven't really damaged it that much by what u wrote.I'd just have a salon color it your natural color & u will be fine.I will tell u this.Highlights r hard to cover. They will show easy, but if u get a med. brown color. They should cover it pretty good.I color my hair dark auburn now.I had blonde highlights & the color covered it pretty good.Trust me, u will be ok.Just go to a Salon & ask them about this.Well, good luck!! :)
