Do you have a picture of your hair before the GL install?

When she removed them, did she apply a solution to the bond, try to crack it and then slowly slide out the extension? if not, then she was trying to pull them out and that is why your hair got damaged. All great lengths certified stylists are supposed to use gentle care when removing the bonds.

Do you have any before pics? Also- was she certified in GL hair extensions?
Here is the contact info. You can also find it on their website.

It looks choppy to me and like there was definite breakage but you say now you have already gone ahead and installed wefts?

That might have been a bad idea and if I was you, I would have gotten a trim, evened it up, and gone at least 3 months with no hair extensions of any kind. This will give the hair a break and it will fill back in quickly. You will be surprised how fast it comes back. I see no balding areas either so thats good. The hair just needs to fill in a little and get stronger.

When you have hair extensions in, the hair is covered and not exposed to air so its a good idea to just let it fill back in on its own. Otherwise Im afraid the tencil strength might be so fragile right now, the weight of wefts will cause more breakage.

Then, go back to the weft method. What do you think?

I am in the middle....I have naturally curly hair....
I would not have been able to cut my hair. It was literally shredded. I probably would have had to shave it....

Oh my! You had a fair amount of hair. It looks fine to me but a decent amount of it and it was clearly below shoulders. It’s very pretty. You almost didn’t need extensions in my opinion. But none of us NEED them and they are fun heheh.

You don’t need to shave your head but you do need to cut off that scraggly length as that is totally shot and uneven. It will just keep breaking off most likely. I would take all that off and you might need to layer it a bit. Then allow it time to grow out. 3 months will make a world of difference. The nice thing about hair is it does come back.

I would take out your wefts though as I can’t imagine you trying to wear them with your hair in that condition right now. You said they didn’t look that good anyway. I’m afraid I would recommend you go short for a while until you get some healthy new growth.

Hi harley. I can't really tell much from the pic because your hair wasn't combed out. Was that pic immediately after the take down?
Your hair looks matted. What kind of aftercare instructions did she give you? How did you care for your hair with the GL installed?
You should be fine as far as the sew-in is concerned. You didn't need a break before having the sew-in installed.

That was right after and it was combed out. I would not let her touch it after that though.
While using GL, I only used gl shampoo/conditioner which mind you I had to order from someone else. I also used the anti tap water which I had to purchase as well.  Only washed my hair every 2-3 days. Wrapped in a silk scarf at night, slept on silk pillowcase etc... Brushed with a GL brush...

I have had them for about 1.5 years. She only took them completely out once i think. She would usually just leave what was left in and add 3 bundles. I was not aware that they were all suppose to come out until I started looking at this website...I didnt know a lot until I found you all. I have known this person for 22 years, so I thought I could trust her... hahaha

I never took all of mine out either unless I wanted to change the texture of my install hair. The longest was 6 months and I suffered no damage BUT that was with me doing monthly or bi-monthly maintenance. I was reading a little of your previous post. What color was she dying your hair? Was she bleaching it?

Well here's what I think. From the pic your hair appeared to be severely matted. That means that your root area wasn't being properly maintained. The bonds were probably twisted together at the root area also which caused too much stress and breakage. Although it's a tedious job the hair can be untwisted and unmatted which it appears to have been done in order for you to have had sew-ins.
It is the perogative of the stylist to charge whatever she wants for her services. It is the clients perogative to decide to pay the fees requested.
Your friend may have paid $300 per bundle for the hair. If she hasn't been certified by GL she may have bought the hair from someone other than GL and that's what they charged her. I doubt if she'll tell you now though.
Did she ever recommend that you not continue having the GL installed? Did she every suggest another method or give you more instructions on how to improve your haircare routine?

wow....i didn't realize you had them in for 1.5 years. No wonder they look matted. GL should be removed every 3 months and done as a fresh install to keep the integrity of the hair intact. I can't believe your hairdresser let you keep them in that long.  As your hair grows and sheds the hair holding the extension is less and less and therefore needs to be replaced. If you have hairlocs/eurolocs, then you remove the link add more hair and re-install. there should always be enough hair to hold the extension.

I am so sorry you had such a bad experience but I would not attribute it to GL but more to the fact that ANY hair extension system that is strand by strand that is left in for 1.5 years without any maintenance or removal WILL definitely DAMAGE your hair. It sounds like she just kept filling in what would fall out and never bothered to make sure your hair didn't matt up.

Even so, sometimes the hair can be preserved in severe matting cases if you are really gentle with removal. Ms Honey can go longer with her extensions b/c she has been doing it for a while and knows what to look for and how to maintain them. Most lay people don't and therefore are advised to remove them or reinstall (depending on the method) after 3 months of wear with monthly maintenance.

She never recommended not to have them installed. I also dont think it was anything I was doing in my hair care routine. I think it was the fact that she took only  1.5 hours to install the gl and that she didnt follow gl guidelines as far as prepping the hair etc... I think its bad business practice to lie about the fact that she was only charging me for the hair when I am positive she did not pay $300/bundle. Also, lying about gl dictating she charge $100/hr for removal. What is done is done but hopefully others considering GL will do their research first....

My problem is that I went in to see her practically every month and would call her with all my concerns. I am not a stylist and do not know much about hair extensions. It was, in my opinion, her job to tell me what I needed to know and to make sure my hair was not matted etc. I would think that a reputable stylist would make sure she is doing the best for her clients.. She would tell me my hair was fine and not to worry... She should have completely removed them every 3 months but she did not..

I totally agree. She should have told you that you needed them removed and that GL is a temporary system that needs to be replaced. I believe the longest anyone has ever worn them safely is 6 months and that is with constant maintenance. It sounds that she might not have used GL in your hair but some other method and called it GL. Did you see the hair before she opened the package? did it say GL on the package? Did you see her use a template guide to attach the extensions or did she just kinda "glue" them into your hair?

I would definitely give your hair a break and even wear a lacefront wig (less damage than a weft) since there is no extra weight to your hair only when you go out and when you don't go anywhere, let your own hair recover and breathe.

By the way....I sent you a PM.

Hi sofia. I was just following the instructions of my fusionist and continued with her instructions when I started to install my own. I'm just a regular DIY'er.
Her stylist had to see the matting if she was reinstalling them every few weeks or so. It didn't benefit her anything to correct it. It appears that she just didn't feel like being bothered or something.

I meant to say that it didn't benefit her NOT to correct it.
