Thanks for that. It's funny what she says about bleach.

This may seem like a dumb question, but what is double bleaching? I was under the impression that it was bleaching followed by toning. Or is it bleaching followed by bleaching? Or both?

Many colorists think that a double process to go blonde is easier on the hair than continuously highlighting. You do need a good colorist or to do it yourself carefully.
I'm sure you'll look great whatever you do, Jules.

I no longer plan on doing it myself. (I know,I change like the wind!)
I have decided since my hair is so dark,I dont want to take the gamble.I think I COULD get it blonde myself, but not without wrecking it,and since I'm trying to grow it long,I'm just not willing to take that chance.
So now, what I want to do is get some overall highlights that are light red and some blonde like this:

My motto is, if you're going to a professional, you have to be very very specific about what you want. I, too, am guilty of saying "I just want a nice brown colour" and "I don't know, do what you like" and stuff like that. If you want it a lighter blonde say something like "I want a whole head block colour of lighter ash/white blonde, no yellow tones, no silver tones." And I know how hard it is to find a hairdresser that will listen to you!

I have had no luck with professionals either. I only had one girl who I actually liked. She didn't make my hair blonder but did something cool with what I had. (She was too expensive unfortunetly)... I went in a while ago to get my hair lifted more... i wanted it BLONDER than it was. The chick took 20 mintues to figure out what to say to me... she suggested putting foils in... and doing my WHOLE head... I was like. Sure sounds good... long story short, she made my hair DARKER and I hated it.... I figure most are protecting themselves from damaging my hair. But I def. know what my hair can take an no one so far is willing to give it to me.
The blonde your going for wouldn't be too hard. It's not very very light and it's kinda golden... I think you could do it at home... but I'm DEF. sure a professional has to be able to do it... meh. Good luck!

My sister is a natural strawberry blonde. The color is impossible to find in a box that looks real anyways.A good colorist may be able to make a good strawberry blonde though.
I like being brunette, and red is ok too,but the reason I want to go blonde again is because it makes me appear softer and younger.

I'am condfident I can do it too. I have not just done it once or twice, but several times through out the years.
And of course,of course,I will do strand tests first!
I have had the most luck using high lift colors. Also,in the light,my hair is not really that dark.It has some light red and blonde tones already...and it hasnt been dyed for months.plus.I'am waiting another couple more months before doing it.
I may have to do it more then once like you jojoswr, but since my hair is in such great conditon and if I use protein,I think it will be fine.
