I have very thick hair that's down to my hips. It used to be so smooth and straight, but for the past couple years, its been getting alot more wavy and frizzy. I don't have a problem with it getting wavy, but the hair framing my face gets curly, the rest of it is mostly wavy, but then there's some staight parts. WHAT IS GOING ON?? Can't it decide?? lol. Are there any products that I could maybe use or anything I can do to make my waves more prominent and control my frizzies without making my hair stiff or sticky?

Thanx

Hi "Beautiful Tragedy," and welcome to the board!

I have heard of people's hair texture changing, but primarily after undergoing chemotherapy (I'm guessing that doesn't apply in your case). So... I wonder what else may have changed... have you moved to a more humid climate? What brands of shampoo and conditioner are you using? Maybe your hair is getting overly dried and under-conditioned. How about your haircare routine? Might you be putting more stress on the strands in some way, maybe ponytail holders or clips?

Just guessing at possible causes. Share some more with us, maybe we can help figure it out. Maybe there's a resident trichologist here who can help answer the question.

My hair is kind of the opposite. It used to be wavy, but I started dying it at home, and it went all frizzy. Now I'm more careful, so it isn't nearly so frizzy, but it is straight.

Now I think it is more straight because it is longer than I ever used to wear it. I think the length weighs it down.

So anyway, did you dye it or use any other funky kinds of chemicals?

Hi Beautiful Tragedy! I am having the same problem. My hair changed after I had my first daughter (9 years). Then I began growing it long. I had a beautiful, healthy wave ,with some curl on the ends. I now have my second daughter (she's 10 months old) and my hair started to change the first half of my pregnancy. It's wavy, straight, straggly, and frizzy (and BSL). I'm fighting the urge to cut it. Anyways, to my point...Did you recently have a child?

LOL, no babies for me! I'm only 17. I've lived in the same place all my life. Regretably, I have dyed my natural red hair. In 6th grade, I was stupid and hated the color, so I tried lightening it. LOL, bad mistake!! It turned out a bright orange color. In 8th grade, I dyed it into a dark auburn, which at that time, I loved, considering what I had before. So over the course of a couple years, it has been dyed alot, but for those couple years, I've really been starting to appeciate my firey hair color, but continued to dye it to keep up the roots b/c I didn't have the money to get my color corrected. Hopefully, before school starts this coming year, I'll finally get it corrected and leave it alone! I also have used alot of heat styling to straighten it b/c of the different textures, but I'm stopping that! I shampoo and condition my hair about 3 times a week and occasionally use a hot oil treatment. Like what products could I use to accent my waves/curls, tame the frizz, and add shine?? Also, I really need to get my hair cut/trimmed b/c my ends are just fried and split, but I'd really like to keep my length. Any suggestions???

Thanx so much!

When I was younger my hair was stick straight but as I got older it changed and now its wavy (curly after I wash it) and sometimes poofy. Its also thicker than when I was young. I am only 19 so there was no baby and I have never had chemo etc so maybe we have the same thing going on? I don't have much advice though cause I usually just take my hair as is and don't try to tame it much. I do use giovanni anti-frizz stuff on occasion but I mostly just like how it smells it does work pretty well though. also I find that my hair is best the day after I wash is or a couple of days after washing the second day after washing is BAD. I have taken to washing the scalp part more often and leaving the rest alone that way I only wash the entire length once a week. I think this also helps keep hair healthier. I am not an advocate of daily washing.

Hi Beautiful Tragedy,

A trim of the ends sounds like a good idea. And then you may want to start trimming your own split-ends, with the tips of a sharp pair of scissors in a well-lit place. Then, put a few drops of oil in the palm of your hand, rub your hands together (so your hands have a thin coating of oil on them), and work your hands through your hair. Read the current thread here about hair oiling. I'm guessing that'll help calm the frizzies. Let us know how it works for you.
