howdy everyone!

I just found this through some online searches...what a nice place!

anyway...i'm thinking of going short...short is not pixie to me, but more bobbish....maybe SLIGHTLY shorter...

The thing is in the past two years, each time i've gone in for a cut, no one will cut it shorter than around my shoulders, usually a bit longer than that.  I have had a bob in the past and loved it, and i think it looked great!!  but everyone says my face is too round for shorter hair.

I have lost weight and my face has thinned out in a noticeable way so i'm hoping someone is willing to trim my hair shorter now!  my husband LOVES long hair so he's not happy about me going short, but he's seen it in a bob before and he loved it then too , so my guess is he'll recover!

my question is....do bobs only look good on thin faces? How thin does a face have to be? i don't have a round face at all, and its not SUPER long, but i have a well defined chin and shorter forehead.  I will try to do a photo if i can...would i use img codes here to get it to show up???

I want to know what shorter do's will look good on me, so i'd like to get some suggestions!  i also plan on getting red highlites like i've had in the past and loved.  the last ones i got bak in august have faded and my hair has grown out.

i like how bobs look on other ppl which is why i have thought of getting one (and i've had one before ...longer in the front and shorter in the back) but i'm open to suggestions because i know NOTHING about hair.

most of my life my hair has been long or longish (midback now) and so i am a ponytail, french twist, bun wearing chik :)  unfortunately this means i have NO IDEA how to deal with hair. i suck at even trying to blow dry it or style it. i've tried and bought tools to work with it, but i never have it in me.  Two cuts ago i got long layers (not really long, just past my shoulders) and tried to kinda curl it some with the blow dryer for a nicer finished look and i'm just clueless and don't have the patience for it...

am i stuck with ponytails? is there a short cut that doesnt require lots of attn???? (and that isn't SUPER SUPER SUPER short?

HELP! :)

Thanks ahead of time for the ideas, photos, etc.  I'll try to find a pic and come back and post it!

If you're always putting it in a ponytail or some sort of bun, it's time to cut it.  Here's a quote from a site that talks about face shape and hair style:

Round Face Shapes

Your goal is to create less volume around the face. You also want to minimize the appearance of roundness.

Styles that are flattering and stylish: Try cuts that fall just below the chin. Soft, graduated layers are a great bet because they make your face appear slimmer and tend to remove bulk and weight from the sides. Consider wispy and tapered ends. These de-emphasize the roundness of your face. Bangs are flattering, but keep them long or sideswept.

Avoid: One-length, blunt cuts if you have short hair. Curly, short hair is also a no-no. These only emphasize your roundness. For more information, check out this photo gallery of best hairstyles for round face shapes.

Celebs who share your face shape: Fergie, Kate Bosworth, Oprah Winfrey, Cameron Diaz, Kirsten Dunst, Michelle Williams, Catherine Zeta-Jones

Tools you need: A great Boar's Hair brush to keep hair tame.

Have fun and let us know how it turns out.

I think a "pob" would look great on you. Don't worry too much about the rules, just follow whatever makes you happy. I don't think you have a round face, anyway.

Good luck!

I had to look up 'pob' cuz i had no idea what it was! lol

i like katie holmes' hair right now and the do she had before this one..but the current one looks a big dramatic...i was hoping for something more fun and funky...i really like what you posted snipette!

esp those last two!!  Some more along those lines would be great.

with the red red highlights (not brownish read but red as they can get my dark hair without stripping it)...i think either would look good!  I have only done red highlites before...seems to suit me.  only started to do that last year and the first effort was such a weak one you could barely tell!  i know that means it was GOOD cuz good highlites look natural but that wasnt what i was going for.

thanks for the responses all :)

I say go for it!  The last pic you posted, your face shape looks more oval than round which means you can do just about anything.  I agree with Ally, go for what makes you feel good.

Whose is this photo?
What is ur cutting?
I belong to traditional society, Sikh religion, and in Sikhism, cutting or snipping is absolutely no-no. And, about eyebrows, even this is not allowed, nor underarm shave, nor pubeshave. Hindus, not all, allow haircutting, however, and even sometimes shave off heads, for the spiritual reasons. O if I were Hindu!!!

who are you talking to aish??  i dont belong to 'traditional' society i guess :)  and i'm not Sihk either :)  guess that is good news if you guys don't do all those things you listed! I hate not having my eyebrows done!!!!

LOVE LOVE LOVE the photos esp the first few you posted here conrad!! really getting excited. about to call and make an appt. going with a high end place cuz i dont have a local place yet as i've only moved here  afew months ago and have never had my hair cut.  family and friends are no help becuase they don't do hair cuts and dyes....my gf just got hers done at supercuts or something so no help from her either!

The last time i had it done it looked a little like the girl in the last photo except it was more of a straight edge and not choppy at the ends like hers is. and the more i'm seeing of the NONstraight edge (is there a name for that???) the more i'm liking it! like in the first three you posted!!!

i want to be able to reference something to the person doing my hair...so what do i call those kinda cuts???  i havent found anything like that in a magazine yet and if i print these out they probably wont look too hot (in b&w and all).

great site btw!! still looking at it now.

thanks!

THANKS again everyone!  I am not sure i'll have the cajones to REALLY DO what i want....i keep telling myself IT WILL GROW OUT!!! but i'm such a chicken. been talking about doing this for ages and for a LONG LONG time my husband kinda kept me from doing it (cuz i knew of his preference for long hair) but now i'm just feeling the need to try something new.  guess i get this bug every few years. i've denied it for years now and its about time i try it.

we'll see how it comes out.

i made an appt and i'm going to get it done on wednesday evening!!!! :) STOKED!!!!

Good luck. Just keep your eyes closed and take a nap. When you wake up it will look fantastic no matter what cut you decide.

I've said this before:  Don't think about how much hair is being cut, think about how great it is going to look.  We'll be thinking about you on Wednesday; can't wait to hear how it went.

To get the photo, just save it to your desktop and go to Target.com   Go to their photo site on line and upload the photo, enter your zipcode and Voila, the print can be printed in color at their store within the hour.  Its cheap also.  You can do that for just about any photo you want, just be sure about copyrigth laws!
Good luck, and you can always gradually get it cut shorter.  My wife did the same thing, she was at her shoulders about 5 years ago, and gradually went shorter.  Now she has her hair cut short in the back and angled towards the front ending up about just past chin length.

No pun intended, but you can "grow" into you new short look, taking it shorter and shorter each time until you reach that length that you feel comfortable with.

Good luck and remember what HAWG says  "Don't think about how much hair is being cut, think about how great it is going to look.

If it helps, and you are not adverse to it, go have a glass of vino ( or any other beverage of your choice) to relax before the cut (I took my wife to have lunch an a beverage)

we went in a TOTALLY different direction, but i have to say i love it. definately taking another inch or so off next time, probably shorter in the back and not so much in the front...

okay. SO....i went in and met the guy...i love him. he reminds me of my best friend. he's cute and very sweet and seemed knowledgeable.  didnt just tell me what i wanted to hear and kinda talked to me alot to find out what was best for me..

so he asks some questions and when i told him i wanted red, he saw my old highlights and said it was hard to rehighlite it now cuz of those orangy remnants...so he did all over color to sort of PERK up the old highlites for now. it was way cheaper, plus he said it buys us time to grow more hair out before we REdo highlightes in a much redder shade. this is red/violet with red boosters and looks nice in the light, but you probably wont see how much color is in it in these photos. sad.gif it does have some nice color tho!!!

I LOVE THE CUT! here, again, is like an hour later, so it fell a lot from handling it and stuff.....he blew it out one way to show how easy it was then he showed me a differnet do, and after that, it realy didnt go bak to the more full, short of sloppy but cute look it had. its layered and cut with razors...he went all edward scissorhands on me! lol

here is before...took it myself before i left:

user%20posted%20image

this is now:

user%20posted%20image

user%20posted%20image

user%20posted%20image

user%20posted%20image

i wish i took pics right after it was done cuz omg it looked awesome smile.gif LOL

My husband was so happy i didn't go shorter, and suprisingly, couldnt keep his eyes off me! he COULD NOT stop grinning and kept complimenting me. lol. he SOOOO loved it and that is always good!

he loves the color and sees it way more in person than in the photos....i am gonna go bck to this guy again after about 2 months and we will do it MORE red and i'll probably go shorter. i told him to do whatever, just shorter than it was, EASY and to look good. so he kinda went at it and i'm really happy with it!  we will see how i feel tomorrow when i get to see it in the daylite and fix it myself! hopefully i still love it!!!

thanks for looking!!
