Is it OK to mix jojoba with some of the oils mentioned like sesame and almond? Or use it by itself? What about with the red turkey oil? Can you mix stuff with that too?

yes, they are carrier oils for aromatherapy. they work well because they mix well with other oils. I am including a link with an explanation of the different oils.

Olive oil may be too heavy, and jojoba is pretty sticky all by itself. That doesn`t mean you are limited to those 2 oils.

Usually u can find these in healthfood stores, I would avoid the ones in the grocery stores because the healing properties are usually lost in refinement/processing.

Just a warning about Almond oil..

This might sound like a dumb thing to write, but be SURE the almond oil you buy is NOT, repeat, NOT "Bitter Almond Oil", because that will burn your eyes and skin like crazy! Obviously, this is a warning for new buyers-you can`t be too careful.

Thank you so much. I am going to get some and try it because I am a sucker for new things to try for my hair. :-) I appreciate all the information and help. It is great that you are willing to do that for us.

Best wishes,
Karen

health food stores. it`s used as a base for massage oils and other things in the homeopathic world.

http://www.seedman.com/Rachel/cosmetic.htm

TURKEY RED OIL: The only carrier oil in the world as far as we know that`s completely dispersible in water, making this oil our best seller. This quality not only makes it an excellent bath oil, but because of its penetrating qualities it is as excellent as a body and massage oil. And to quote a few of our massage therapists, "it doesn`t stain the sheets either." It was originally named "Turkey Red" because it was the color of "red" turkeys. No longer red-this golden colored oil is nevertheless one of the most unique base oils to work with. It makes a nice perfume oil as well, as it doesn`t cloud when essential and/or fragrance oils are added to it. Use 100%. Contains: Hybrid Safflower Oils, Isopropyl Myristate, Lanolin Oil, PEG-8 Dioleate.
 RSO242 Turkey Red Oil 1 oz. $5.50
 RSO242A Turkey Red Oil 4 oz. $13.75
 RSO242B Turkey Red Oil 16 oz. $41.25

Hi Trix,

I have never heard of turkey red oil. Where do you get it. I can`t wait to try it. I like almond oil too but I can use olive on my hair with good results so I tend to stick with that. I have used a lot of sesame in the past. One thing NOT to use is castor oil. I tried that and EEEEYUCK it was horrible. It darkened my hair and took forever to get out. Also, no vaseline. LOL

I can`t use olive oil very often it`s too heavy. Try almond oil or turkey red oil. the later one is the only one known to disperse in water, so it will give you the oil treatment benefit without the greasy feel.

Hi,

Yes, Olive Oil can be too heavy for some hair types. Especially thin or fine hair. It can also strip some color from some hair. Not all, but definitely something to consider. I can use olive oil but sometimes I switch out with sesame oil which is very light. Jojoba oil is also not as heavy and is wonderful. If you are not sure you can always experiment to find the best oil for you.

Another hint...use a small amount of shampoo and pour into the palms of your hands and then carefully pat on your hair BEFORE you add water. It cuts the olive or other oil and therefore does require you to over shampoo to remove oil. This is a little trick that always works for me. Before I learned it I would use 3 shampoos to get rid of the oil and then I was in essence washing away all the benefits of even using oil. So now with the shampoo to cut the oil somewhat I am able to only shampoo once and retain the benefits of the oil.

Hope that helps.

Best wishes,
Karen

Hey,

I am trying to grow my hair longer and do all the right things but when I try the olive oil treatments it leaves my hair oily. Should I switch to other oils or just try to wash it more? Suggestions? Karen or anyone?
