QuoteReplyTopic: need toner suggestions Posted: January 01 2008 at 12:01am
i've been bleaching and toning my light blonde hair myself for the past few months and have had pretty good results, however i'm not 100% happy with the toner that i have been using. i've been using wella white lady, which is violet based, and it does a fantastic job canceling out the gold tones, but lately it's been leaving my hair a bit too ashy looking. i'm aiming for a bright whitish not-quite-platinum blonde and i'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions. i can live with the ash (it's certainly better than the gold!), but ideally i would like to find something that eliminates the gold without adding ash. i'd like to stay in the wella line if possible, considering trying ivory lady which is violet-blue based. thoughts? is it possible to mix two different colors together?
my other question is about developer strength. i've been using 20 volume and the toner stays on the whole head about 10 minutes. is this safe for my hair every 4-6 weeks? it hasn't been much of a concern to me since it's left on for such a short time, but my hair is in great condition for the first time in a long time, and i would like to keep it that way. should i be using 10 volume? and if so, would i have to leave the 10 volume on longer to get the same results as with the 20? also, is clear developer preferred over cream for toner, or does that not matter?
sorry for all the questions - im still an amateur! :)
I use 4% with equal amounts of tint & apply to wet hair keep checking until you get the colour you wish I would try a 10Pearl it's a beautiful bluey silver.

Hi Miffny, is this 10 Pearl a developer or a color?
I stopped by Sally's the other day and purchased both the White Lady and the Ivory Lady, as well as a bottle of 10 volume developer. I won't be coloring till sometime next week, so I'm still looking for suggestions as to what to do with what I have. Debating between using one color or the other, or mixing (although I have no idea what ratio I would do, would 1:1 be ok?), and still not sure if I will be trying the 10 vol. instead of the 20. I would love to hear advice if anyone has any!
Hi Vixen12 it's a Goldwell tint but you can use it as a toner (all tints can be used as toners) 1:1 is the right way 10 vol is fine I never use higher than 4% (13vol) or warmth sneaks through. A Tint Toner is usually used on damp freshly washed hair at the basin so the peroxide is automatically watered down a bit as the hair is fairly wet.I wouldn't leave longer than 15 minutes
Try a test with 5vol it'll be so much kinder to your hair but watch it every 2 minutes as it may darken too much.
Wella's Pearls are 08 so 10/8 is lightest pearl blonde.Special blondes 12.81
