Ok i have naturally brown hair, but i have it highlighted blonde. I like it so much that i want to dye my hair blonde to save some money. But i was told that i could not do that because of my natural hair color. I was told that if i wanted to do that then i would have to bleach my hair first but that seems like it will ruin my hair and make it platnum and i just want to dye my hair blonde, can i?? help i wanna dye my hair blonde! It depends on what shade of blonde you want. There are now high lift tints that will lighten brown hair dramatically. You can`t make brown hair platinum, but you can get it to be a nice honey or golden blonde

Hey Safoxygrl!
Just my opinion... but keep in mind that highlights might actually be more low maintenance that all-over blonde. Even if you can do it with one process (which, like the other posters have mentioned, might bring out the red tones in your hair), you`re still processing your whole head, instead of only certain strands.
And, once you`ve done it, then you`ll get the dreaded roots. Trust me, I only changed my colour a shade, and I could still see the roots. And, roots = root job, = more $$. Highlights can go a bit longer without touch ups.
If you`re serious about the blonde, I would go and see a professional, maybe just for a consultation, to find out what processes they would have to do, determine the damage based on the condition of your hair, and find out the commitment involved. You`d hate to damage your hair, since once it`s done, it can`t be undone.
