Well said! Smile

Plus, if I may, thinking they know what is right or wrong for everyone else.

Hopefully no one will take offense to what I am about to say - even though it isn't anything revolutionary.

Most people on here feel very strongly about things.  Whether you are a long hair lover or a short hair lover, it seems there is a bias one way or the other and some are not willing to see the other persons point.

I think in this situation, and many others, people state their OPINION as FACT - and that is what gets people all upset.  When you say a specific person looks "stupid" that way or if someone thinks a specific way, there is something wrong with them, that is where you are overstepping your bounds.  While I tend to bend towards liking shorter hair better, I can see the beauty in a style regardless of length/shape/color/etc.  Some others have a hard time seeing the other perspective.

Feelings and emotions are opinions, not facts.  Please state your opinion as just that...and we would not get to this point.....

It's not that he shares his opinion, it's the tone in which he shares his opinion.   He has been scolded at least once by the moderators for this.

Maybe it is just me (& possibly Hal), but I find opinions like the producers actions seem deranged & this will lead to the girls being screwed-up to be a little over the top.  Also, he doesn't know the girls or their parents personally, but he knows this is wrong, period.

How long did the "new" Bob last?  Couple of months?

Bob.. what if some kid was required to grow her hair to her butt for a role?  Some how I don't think you would care about that...

Shave a willing 10 year olds head for enough money to secure a good collage education... I'm all for that.  I bet you put out a casting call for a major movies role that requires a head shave and you would have more 10 year olds lined up than at a Locks of Love rally!

Hey that’s an idea... !

And that's fine.

The problem is that none of us know the relationships & the dynamics between the two girls & THEIR parents.  I don't either, but is it possible that each girl & HER parents discuss the role & what is required of it before they accept or reject a role?  If so, why does anyone here have a problem with it?

P.S.  Ellen Page was 16 when she shaved her head for Mouth to Mouth.  I guess she was too old to get "screwed-up" by doing this, huh?

You know in the end it is a business decision, that is all there is to it.

Fanning's may have decided it wasn't worth the risk for one reason or another. If the movie could of got them some big award they would of taken it but if it is the same as any other role why would they.

Basically it comes down to the fact they can get other roles and not have to cut their hair.

Well of course if you think it's wrong & unnecessary, then it must be wrong & unnecessary.  Case closed.

This is going to screw them up?

Did you ever think that maybe they DON"T have a problem with doing this?  Maybe it is just you?

Why is everything so absolute with you?

I'm sure who ever takes the roll will sleep much better knowing (as if they would know) that Bob feels badly for them.  If their pay check won't make them feel better, I'm sure Bob's pity will.

What's the big deal?  Dakota Fanning doesn't want to cut her hair for a role.  If they really wanted her, they would use a skull cap.

Many MANY moons ago, Elizabeth Taylor was in the Movie "National Velvet", and there is a famous scene where Mickey Rooney cut her hair short to pass her off as a race horse jockey.  Guess what?  IT WAS A WIG!!!  If memory serves, E.T.'s mother did not want her hair cut for thr role because they actually did cut E.T.'s hair for her part in a production of "Jayne Eyre", where E.T. played the girl who died.

A director's vision of a book is one thing, but unless the actress is willing to cut her hair, like Mena Suvari or Natalie Portman or Demi Moore, as part of the artistic statement, use a wig.  We get the point!

Demanding?  Deranged?  There you go again Bob.

Who says they had to accept the roles?  It's not as if they are under contract & then suddenly they are told they must shave their heads.  They (& hopefully their parents) knew what was going to be required before they took the parts & they must be OK with it.

Jeez, it's not the end of the world (except to a few people).

Jane Seymour wore a crewcut skull cap for a movie once. And make-up artists are so talented today that they made all the women look really bald for Tyra Banks' "Model" show. To me, there is no excuse for demanding headshaves of little girls for "art" sake. IMO, the producer's insistence on it seems deranged. I feel badly for the girl who got the role. Ouch Best, Bob

In every movie I've ever seen where a child has cancer they've always shaved their heads. I guess your answer is everybody.

My question was rhetorical. I didn't ask whether it happens or not. The emphasis was on WHAT KIND OF IDIOT...?

Interesting.  Not so much that Dakota wouldn't shave her head but that Sofia Vassilieva, who is in talks to replace her, might.  I only say that because she's a regular as the oldest daughter on "Medium" and has rather distinctive below waist length blonde hair.  If "Medium" gets renewed, I'm sure there will be discussion with the producers of that show as well as to whether she is allowed to take that step for the role.

I doubt they'd stop her though.  She'd just end up with a wig for a while until it grew out enough that they could toss in the "Ariel decides to cut her hair" story.  Just something interesting to key an eye out for.
