That is a really good point. The haircutter I go to rents her booth, and only claims about 50% of the cash she receives as income or tips, which I gather is about average. So figure they are paying less taxes than those same CPAs and MBAs as well!
The girl that does my hair told me that she is making over $90k net a year (booth rental) in a low cost of living state like Arizona. Average household income is $55k for the area. MBAs with CPA certifcations make approx the same. Why don`t you tip your accountant? When you are paying 50 to 100 for a haircut you are paying for the individual`s expertise already. Otherwise you would be paying $10 to $15 at Fantastic Sams and tipping 20% because they are employees. Waiters are making less than minimum wage, of course you need to tip them otherwise they should be able to set the price for their work station just like beauticians.

I think that your tip amount was about right. You are also supposed to tip the shampoo person if someone other than your stylist shampooed your hair. Only the owner is exempt from tips and I think sometimes even they expect something. The place I go is so expensive I can`t afford tips ($72.00 and up for a cut) so they will just have to lump it. Tipping is not something that is required and it makes me mad sometimes. Why can`t they just build that amount into their prices and pay taxes like the rest of us?

The salon I go to is booth rental. Should I still tip 15%? I got my hair highlighted today, it was 65 and it included the cut, I tipped 10$ was this too much or not enough?
