Like you, I have a product I use in my hair and its supposed to bad for it. I use Fructis products, the colour treated/permed line. They also offer a cream mask that I only use on my end and I have virtually no split ends and my hair is nice and shiny. They also have a Aqua spray that I use when I have a severe case of the fly aways that I just love and it was designed for long hair. I don`t use them every washing, but usually every second or third. I have no idea what is in it, all I know is those are the days I have good hair days! I`ve used Pantene for coloured hair before and it does a reasonable job. Good luck with your hair care products, I think in all its a crap shoot, just keep experimenting til you find something you love!

I`m just curious....are you saying Pantene products are alkaline (high pH) like a perming/coloring solution? These processes are damaging because the alkalinity swells the hair shaft, allowing the perming solution/color to penetrate the cortex. Products like shampoos and conditioners typically have a slightly acidic pH (less than 7) which is actually ideal, since this causes the hair cuticle to close, thus imparting shine. I really doubt Pantene`s products have a pH of 9-14, which it would need to lighten hair color. In any event, I personally choose not to use Pantene because of its detergent agents, not pH.

Hi all I am a professional Stylist that after reading this string of inquiries thought I may be able to share what i know about the subject. Yes stylist do try to sell the products that they use some are of supierior quality while some are just over priced crap.....but all products are not created equal! Pantene and many other grocery store brand shampoos have a extremely softening effect on the hair due to the PH balance of the product.....feels great and soft but is really very bad on your hair very much like exposing your hair to a little bit of perm solution every day...slowly it takes its toll! Ends will lighten in color and split much easier than those treated with most proffessional grade products. Dimethicone or other silocone products are added to help you comb out your hair easily, they are used in many products but should be used to enhance a good shampoo not cover up the damage caused by a poor one. Low level shampoos are often made with harsher sudifactrents (cleansers) and are more dilute...contain more water. You are probably better off useing a smaller amount of a proffesional product sold cheap in a litter bottle and ultimatly wont be spending much more than with a low level product. Truly I encourage you to look at the quality of the products ingridients and not the clever marketing!
Hi all! I think if you use the Pantene Purity Shampoo every third time or so you shampoo it would take care of the build-up problem. I use it, and it works very well. Right now I`m using Aubrey Organics JAY Shampoo and their GPB conditioner, so I use the Pantene Purity for clarifying, about every 10 days or so, because we have very hard water here, and hard water minerals do build up on the hair, leaving it dull, especially bad with color-treated hair like mine-LOL! Myself, I might switch back to using the Pantene Color Revival Shampoo and Conditioner, as it is loads cheaper, and my hair does get really shiny when I`ve used it! Hairstylists always love to slam Pantene because they`re pushing the salon products to make money, that aren`t always any better!
the only thing i ever heard was that it had animal fat in it?? don`t ask me! my hairdresser told me that, she said it leaves residue... I stopped using it b/c, well... I had a lot of residue, well, its been a few years and I don`t have any build-up... then again, since then Pantene could`ve changed that ingredient............... ?
Hey everyone! I`ve heard good and bad reports about Pantene - my friend Penny says that she uses it an it makes her hair amazing - so does her mom and the curly stuff really works for her curls. But my mom says it dryes out her hair and so does my sister. I was reading Cosmo Hair and Beauty the other day and they were rating intenstive conditioners and Pantene Pro V Perfect Curls was a tied first! So I`m about to go out the shops and buy some Pantene intensive condtioner to try it out! I`ll report back!

You are right about Sodium Laureth Sulfate being one of the milder detergents. Some people, however, still have problems with it. I think the bigger problem with Pantene is the high level of silicone in it (products ending in -one). These can coat the hair leaving it too slippery and may eventually lead to dryness. That said, many people love cones. Some avoid them like the plague. Personally, I need low cones for good detangling, but high cones make my hair so slippery that it feels like it`s coated in plastic and even elastics won`t stay in.
The general rule is.....use what works for you. Hair is a very personal thing. What works for you might not work for me. If you like the Pantene you`re using, continue to use it. If, after a few weeks, your hair stops responding to it the way you want it to, maybe it`s not so good for your hair. Or you could try using a clarifying shampoo on a regular basis to get rid of build-up.

P.S. I just noticed the original date on this post! LOL! Well, hope it helps someone! :-)
I love Pantene! I only use biologe because I get a really good deal on the large bottles. When I do use drug store stuff Pantene is what I use. It works so great!
I have read several posts on this board, commenting on how bad/harsh Pantene is on your hair. I personally love Pantene, and decided that I wasn`t giving it up without a fight. I did some research, and these are the ingredients listed in Pantene Color Care (the one I use)
There isn`t any Ammonium Laureth Sulfate Or A. Lauryl Sulfate or Ammonium Xylenesulfonate in these ingredients. I did find however, that in all the other Pantene shampoos (other than color care) Ammonium Laureth/Lauryl and Xylenesulfonate are used. Could it be that people never paid close attention to the color care collection? Maybe they looked at the Classic Pantene and assumed that all Pantene shampoo`s were bad. Is there anything listed in the above ingredients that would make Pantene Bad Or Harsh on your hair? I thought that Sodium Laureth Sulfate was one of the milder detergents-right? Any comments would be appreciated. Thanks!
