I`m is the sort of the same boat as LadyFubu, although I am quite a bit older. I have long hair that is all one length and is past my shoulders. I like it long, but the weight of it is a bother, and taking care of it is a chore. I`d like an update of some kind, but have no idea what to do. I too am told I look much younger than my 42 years, but I don`t want to look twenty-something. I also don`t want to look older. My hair is a combination of wavy and straight. Does anyone have any suggestions or advice?

Hi,
For you I would recommend graduated layers JUST around your face and if you don`t have bangs, adding really edgy bangs that you can play with. If you get them texturized you can fluff them with your fingers or wear them sleek. You can wear them across your face or to the side.
The graduated layers will open up your face and you can wear the long layers down around your cheeks or your can gel them back and up off your face. I used to do that with my hair for years and I loved the versatility.
Bangs are an instant face changer and don`t add years. They actually are used by celebrities to take years off. Hillary Clinton often wears bangs to soften her look.
With wavy hair you can wash your hair and then put it into a soft knot, pop in a few hair sticks and let it air dry. When dry, take the knot out and let the soft waves fall. Or do what Phoebe does on Friends and dry your hair straight, but it in a high ponytail and then take some pieces and fan the hair out into a wide splay.
Shags are super hot. You also have the option of have some light layers cut throughout your entire hair, keeping the length but allowing for a shaggy look.
