I have had very good luck with a product called "Ultra Swim". It is readily available at a number of commercial outlets. You can see the list of retailers at: http://www.chattem.com/wheretobuy/ultra.asp You can also try using lemon juice or vinegar to rinse the hair after swimming. While I personally have no experience with it, I have been told that getting the green out of your hair can be done by dissolving 5 aspirin in a cup of warm water and pour it over wet hair. Let set for a few minutes and rinse. I`ve been told by many people the green will disappear immediately! Before the special shampoos were available, I found that the best way to remove chlorine from hair is to wash it with your normal shampoo and add baking soda to it to make a paste. Leave it on for five minutes, then wash again with your regular shampoo. It worked great!! Hope this helps and good luck!!
You may want to try a "swim band" under your swim cap. Its easy to make from a plain racers cap and will help keep your hair dryer. A more water tight swim cap will also help. Also wet your hair first in the shower to prevent the hair shafts from absorbing so much chlorine. See "Create a swim band" at http://www.geocities.com/hotspings/bath/5413/swimband.html
I`ve been swimming a lot in chlorinated pools lately, and despite wearing a swim cap, my hair is really paying the price! It has become a dried-out, tangled mess.
What can I use to minimize the damage the chlorine has on my hair? I`ve tried using leave-in conditioners in the pool, and I condition like crazy once I`m done, but none of the hair products I use really seem to get the chlorine out.
