hi,
i have applied hairlocs to several clients and they are experiencing a lot of slipping??? i took the certification class though hairlocs, but don't know what i am doing wrong????
my clients are lossing 30+ between visits...is it normal to lose any and if so...what is normal??? i also do fusion and my clients do not lose any???
thanks sooooo much for ur help...i truly appreciate it!!! i just want to get to the bottom of this...my clients are using a clarifying shampoo on the roots and i'm not sure what conditioner...is there a cetain brand and line within that u suggest for the s/h?? at the hairlocs training i don't think they really mentioned s/c since they do not have a line...they are brushing with a fusion extension brush as needed through out the day...i've tried putting more hair in then i was using which seems like a lot, and they are still slipping out. i use about 150-175 of size A locs and the regular extra thick hair for a full instal...and i am closing them with the hairlocs tool.
is there a different brand of links that are less likely to slip is or it all about the install and care???

oh...i forgot, what would be the normal amount of strands to slip in between maintenance...and how long do u suggest in between maintenance? ...and how many times do u reuse the hair...one client has had her hair since last summer...could that also be a reason???
sorry for all the questions...i just luv doing extensions, but i'm having a hard time with this method : )
hi Stephanie....I had someone install hairlocs for me once (didn't work out for me as I didn't like metal in my hair) but they installed it on wet hair and crimped the loc....I don't know if this is wise or would damage the hair further but she had said she was doing this to prevent the locs from sliding out. I really had a tough time taking the locs out b/c once my hair dried.....it was impossible to get the tool in to remove them. Tangles....can you chime in? what is your professional opinion? I never went back to that lady b/c I always thought it was weird to install on wet hair.
Some hair is just too slipery for micro ring methods. What helps is to make sure you use the smallest diameter size ring that you can fit the I-tip and natural hair into. The tighter the fit, the less likely to slip.
Also, I find that the sillicone lined rings slip less.
Stephanie - I have the same problem with microlinks/hair locks. I lost 8 strands just the other day. This is my 3rd install by 2 different people and in my opinion its just my hair. I did both the silcone lines ones and the copper ones and 2 different brands of hair, and it's just my hair, its too baby fine. I just got used to re-installing about 25 pieces every 2 weeks. I will be ordering skin wefts in the next few days, Ill let you know how it holds once I do the install

Maybe I am wrong here but when hair is wet, it swells and if you do a wet install then wouldn't it be "looser" once the hair is dry thereby easier to slip out? I am not a professional so I could be wrong and maybe hair does not swell that much but I don't get it.

Im not sure that the clients texture of hair (i.e fine) is causing the slippage. I have a client who has baby fine hair and she wears her extensions (silicone trumpet tubes) for 4 months ( I tell her not to wear them for this long but she wont listen) and she only loses about 10 bonds throughout the period. Honestly, I cant imagine them losing so many bonds so soon. I dont have an account with Hair Locs, but I do have a lot of clients who ask me to remove and re-apply using their Hair Locs hair, and I have noticed that their strands are thicker and heavier than some of the other companies. Its not a bad thing, in fact I like Hair locs hair, but maybe using their thick hair strands on fine hair clients doesnt work because their fine hair cant maintain the weight of the hairlocs bond. I think you can still use hair locs, but maybe on fine hair switch to other companies, or pull more of the clients hair through the loc so that the clients hair can hold the weight of the hair loc strand. I totally agree with Metagirl the tighter the space between the extension strand, client hair and ring, the better the chances that you will not experience slippage.
I know during the time I wore them, they did seem to slip out quite a bit. They did not damage my hair at all or cause breakage but they came out often. I have medium fine hair and it can be kind of "slippery" or oily up near my roots so that probably didn’t help the situation. I was not thrilled with the hair quality either. It was nice for about 3 shampoos and then went to hell. So it was silicone coated I would assume and processed.

sounds like the silicone lined tubes are worth a shot...any suggestions on where to get them??? should i get the tubes like hairlocs or just the round? also, what brand of hair should i use?? hairlocs is the only brand i've used for the links....
I think you should offer your clients a choice of hair and not just the hairlocs. The texture did not quite match my own. Your clients will have varying hair types/textures so the wider range of hair you can offer, the happier they will be

Actually I found the hairlocs brand hair to be a little too thick for my texture which is VERY soft and silky. I am wearing virgin Russian hair and have been for nearly a year now (same hair) and it’s fantastic! I mean this hair is still soft, tangle free and almost as nice as the day it was installed at nearly a year. The only problem is it may be a little too silky for some. It does not have a lot of bulk and weight to it at all. It’s also expensive yet it seems worth it if you can get a year or more worth of wear out of the wefts. I don’t recommend the Russian if your client has curly hair. Its one option though for those of us with the very slick or fine hair.
I have the hair lock system and I was OK at first, then toward the third month They were coming out like crazy but only on one side of my head, not the other. I had the maintence sone and still the same. I am having them all taked out shortly to see how my " Real " hair is, and if needed I will put a few back in to add fullness.
I had a similar problem with Hairlocs, sourgirl. I noticed when they slipped out; it seemed to be mainly in one area. It could have been that the hair was the thinnest there. It just seemed that Hairlocs were too heavy for my texture. They didn’t cause any damage but also didn’t hold. It’s basically a little piece of metal so I think thicker hair would do fine with it.
