Wolfing is very important no matter if your hair looks crappy while doing it. It's all a part of the wave process if you want to develop a true 360 degree wave pattern.

Thanks for the reply. I will be sure to brush with the softy more often. In fact I will use it exclusively for a couple of weeks to test it out. By then I will probably need to switch to a harder brush.

It looks like you have a medium texture.  Try using a soft brush more often and try not to get cuts under a #2 wtg until you get a solid base 360 wave pattern.

Fellas, I've had a hard time getting and keeping waves. I think I am getting my hair cut too low, too soon. But when I grow my hair out for 4 to 5 weeks it looks bummy and I have to get it cut so its hard for me to wolf. Two weeks ago I got it cut down with a guard 1 (does this qualify as a scalping?). I am hoping to basically start over and to get it trimmed every 2 weeks in the hopes of being able to wolf for longer periods without my hair looking horrible in the process. Yesterday I got my first trim... here are the pics... obviously no waves yet.

I need help in identifying my hair type... does this classify as fairly straight hair? Nappy? When I grow it out (not concerned with waves ) it appears to be fairly straight and not nappy. What would be the best approach for my hair (softy? mad brushing? be patient and keep hair long? etc.) ? I know this gets asked a lot but I was wondering if anyone out there is willing to help a brother out... or at least point me in the right direction.
