Im gettin hair extensions glued in this weekend and was wondering if anyone else could tell if their hair was damaged badly after they had their extensions removed. I was told if i came once a month to the salon for mainance that i shouldnt have any problems?
It really depends on a few factors. The type of hair extension you are getting, the condition/strength of your hair currently, the maintenance (or lack there of), how long you leave them in for, how well you care for them, etc...We can tell you personal experiences and offer advice. What type of extension are you getting? I assume fusion but does it have a name like Great Lengths? That might help a little more.
that is a loaded question. It depends on the technician who does the install,and who also removes the install. Also...what type of glue are you doing? wefts, individuals? How long are you planning on keeping them in? I have found that if you remove after 10 weeks max (a full removal not just touchups) you won't stress your hair and thus reduce your chance for damage. Your hair can get damaged from improper application, removal, wearing them too long, or not taking care of them properly. HTH
It sounds to me like you're getting wefts glued in with tape.
If you go in for a monthly reinstall you should have no damage to your hair.
IA...This is basically what I do now and I have bleached hair. I have no damage at all; in fact, my hair is growing quite nicely and getting more healthy (with the help of frequent conditioning treatments!)
I thinks wefts are the way to go as far as not creating a lot of damage and drama with the natural hair. Ive never tried the taping because I prefer the permanance of a sew in and "set it and forget it" but Ive had substantial growth since Ive been wearing wefts in this manner.
To be honest, any type of hair of extension method you recieve will have its pro's and con's. The Latex bonding is like a rubber type adhesive. It only stays in about 2-4 weeks, depending on how often you shampoo and touch up in between. You have to be very careful with latex, it will cause hair breakage. The liquid gold is an acrylic glue, it is not as strong as latex, but it can hold stronger with the aide of tape. Make sure you read manufacture instructions and use the correct remover. Never just remove extensions with shampoo. I always condition my clients hair and mine after I have all the tracks removed. To me it is like two steps in one. Good luck!
Keeping up maintaince will reduce damage but as the client you need to maintain them daliy also.
By this I mean brushing the hair with recommend brushes and supporting the bonds when combing.
Using cool water when washing the bonds and ph balanced shampoos also keeping conditioners away from the bonds.
Keep any heat products away from the bonds, thats hair dryers on hot temp, straightners and tongs.
Lastly and this Ive found is a major reason for damaged hair, it is dont keep the original set in longer than 3 months! Have them removed and have a break of at least a week between sets to properly wash, colour and condition you own hair.
