If your hair came out to dark wash it with Prell a few times and use a hot oil treatment. Hot oil treatments sometimes lift out color. You could also wash it with dishwashing liquid but deep condition after. If that doesn`t lighten it enough you could use Colorfix by Jheri Redding (Sally`s Beauty store has it) to remove the black tint more and then use a brown color.
Remember the mantra "color doesn`t lighten color". You will have to remove some of the black pigment first.The only reason you would wait a few days to redye your hair is to let your scalp calm down. But if you feel your scalp can take it you can redye right away.
