I have been wearing extensions for 4 years taped wefts but I have noticed my hair getting thinner I had it cut a year ago and I think she layered it too much but even a year on it has grown 1'' and is really wispy I have 1/4 the hair I used to I am reluctant to put extensions back but I can't bear to look in the mirror all I can think about is my awful hair I am taking supplements but if anyone has any ideas please tell me. I am a hairdresser and I can't see any noticable bald patches.
you sound like my problem but i use micro links, and my hair keeps getting thinner. Sherry told me it could be from the install of my microlinks using pliers with ridges however your using tape. i bet it could be the same thing where your hair might be brittle at certain sections and it isnt going to cause bald spots only taking strands of your hair and just falling out like 3 inches from your scalp leaving a remainder attached. I take a prenatal pill and a pill called "hair, skin, and nails" but i am looking into herbal things now. there are some threads on here about herbal things to use like tea, and other things on the forum. good luck tell us what works for you. http://talk.hairboutique.com/forum_topics.asp?FID=50 check some of those threads out too

If you are saying that you have only had an inch of growth in a year that leads me to think that the ends are breaking off. Not that it isnt growing but you dont see any length gain because the hair is breaking off. I used to have this when I bleached/highlighted. There was about 2 years that I didnt see any growth because the hair was so fragile and damaged it would break and never really gained any length. I also think that my hair was too fragile for the strand methods that i was doing at that time which also lead to more breakage.
I changed my hair products to gentler products. I think sulfate free and natural based products helped my fragile hair, quit highlighting/bleaching and started using the tape method (which I find gentler, but I think thats a matter of opinion). Since then my hair has grown alot and gotten much thicker and healthier.
I love my platinum blond but I think I am going to just let my hair grow out natural as well because I think you are right with the bleaching it is breaking all my hair. Sherrie how do you keep your hair so blond without bleaching/highlighting? Is it just naturally light blond?

My hair isnt that light really. I used to be much lighter. I used to do heavy bleach highlights every 3 months and my hair had gotten very bleached out. I dont do that anymore and havent done that in a few years.
I am naturally a dark blonde/light brown. So for the past few years Ive just used a box color of the lightest blonde which will take me up to a pretty light golden blonde. Which actually matches most #613 hair extensions perfectly as most are gold toned. Once in a great while I would do a very light highlight about once or twice a year if I felt the need for a little extra brightening/lightening. But now I dont even do that either. I havent touched any bleach/highlighting to my hair in at least a year
I use only a box color of lightest blonde.I now have alot of brassier color at the roots and underneath/nape area which in extensions color looks like about a #27 or a strawberry-ish color. But you dont see any of this really, all you really see is the hair that is on top. The hair on top is #613 and its really all anyone sees. I think its an optial illusion. When the hair on top is #613 all you see is light blonde.
My current install I have #613 on top, #16 in the middle and #18 underneath and you still basically only see #613, even though I have several ounces of the darker blonde colors installed, the eyes really only see the light blonde... So Ive learned that I can still keep my light blonde without doing it in such a damaging way...if that makes any sense at all?
That all makes complete sense. I have always been told not to use box dies because they are harder to fix if you mess up. However at this point i would rather have my healthy long hair back like i use to. I have always been blond but my roots have always been a little darker and I use to put highlights in but I dont know why I even started bleaching i was already a natural blond. Do you think my hair will go back to being blond or stay a light brown now? Well i have to compliment your hair looks amazing and i am very jealous. Now one thing if I were to start using box die do you think that will change the color of the rest of my hair cause it has been bleached? or will it all even out to the same color? As i am sure you have used satin strands before the malabu and #613 are the same if i am not mistaken but i'll be honest satin strands dries out fast but it matches my hair a little better for that reason thats sad Thanks for all the info chick you sure helped me out and i'm sure a lot of other people too. One other things in the mean time of you waiting for your hair to grow back out did you take any vitamin supplements or anything to help it grow faster or anything?

I think it has been breaking off but the hair that has grown is such poor quality it is almost tranparent its so thin like old lady hair!
I am taking supplements and leaving extensions out and I have trimmed it but there it still looks horrible.
