Hi everyone!

I just made an appointment at a salon for full foil highlights ($75) and a razor haircut ($40).

About my hair: It is medium to light brown, previously highlighted with a cap (about 6 months ago), straight, and fine.

I have never had a razor cut so I don`t know if this is a good choice for me, but I have heard really good things about it.

So, can someone tell me if the foil highlights and the razor cut are a good idea? Thanks so much.

-Marla

Razor cutting fine hair is a very bad idea. It will leave you looking like you have fried ends that need to be trimmed off.

But I have read that a good razor cut can add fullness to fine hair.

I will quote from long hair guru George Michael:

"A razor is a guillotine for hair that produces only negative results...if you use a razor, the hair is cut on a slant which upsets the shingle pattern and causes the hair to stand straight up - in other words: to split. On the other hand, hair that is cut bluntly with scissors is cut straight across the hair shaft at a right angle, which diminishes the possibility of fraying."

I agree with Mr. Michael since it has been my experience that razor cuts do indeed lead to split ends (and, as we all know, the only way to remove split ends is to cut MORE). I strongly recommend NOT cutting your hair with a razor.

Well thanks, I will talk to my stylist about it and then decide. Anyway, how do you guys feel about foil highlights? It won`t turn me into a blonde, will it? ;)

I have foil highlights and I am very blond. I naturally have medium brown hair. However, it just depends on the color the hairstylist uses. Be sure to tell him/her what color you want. Pictures help.

It will turn you blonde.. in fact it should turn the foiled parts almost white but then your stylist will add a toner to change the highlighted peices to the color you wish. Think of it as trying to paint a picture with water colors on black paper, most colors won`t show up but on white paper...

Thanks to everyone who responded. I got a blunt cut with long layers and a flip in the back. The cut is great and I love the highlights. I`m glad I didn`t go for the razor!
Have a great day!
