Hey Melissa!  I'm back again lol.  I completely forget to tell you this.  So when I met with Christina, I was under the impression that she worked out of her own salon and not her home so I only brought my debit card.  She told me I needed to put $1000 down which was half of the service.  I told her I didnt have any cash and that I would need to go to the bank.  I went to the bank but they were giving me a hard time cause I did not have my license.  I was only able to take out $500.  While I was at the bank, I got a frantic call from my sister and had to rush home.  I was rushing to get home that I forgot to call Christina back.  I felt really bad, and by the time the drama was done with my sister it was like 10 o clock at night.  Anyway, Christina left me a voicemail half hour after I left her home.  I just heard this vmail yesterday.  She said something like, hi karissa, i have been waiting here for half hour for you to get here.  I'm not sure what is going on, but if you were not interested you should of let me know.  You are being very rude and unprofessional and i just had to give you the 411 for the future.  LOL can you believe that?  I can understand anyone getting upset over something like that, however wouldn't you wait more than a half hour to call somebody back?  Perhaps there was traffic, or something else.  I feel bad that I didnt call back till the next day, but I had an emergency.  Now I'm wondering if I should even go to her!

I'm originally from the Bronx and then also lived in Long Island!  Hey did you ever get in touch with that Pam lady from the school?  This week is going way to slow for me!

I know! Aren't they beautiful? Omg, I was thinking the same exact thing about those websites. It could be anyone! Especially when they add in "oh I'm not getting free hair to say this". That says guilty to me!!

There's a salon in NYC that offers a lot of hair extensions. I think you can only call them to get a price. Let me see if I can find the website.. http://www.nychairsalon.com/ . There you go. I don't know how good they are or how expensive but maybe you could call and get a price quote over the phone for micro-rings?

Oh yeah! I didn't know you lived in NY orginally. Awesome :).

I just emailed a lady named Pam at the school. It took her a few days to get back to me but we will see.

Wow I just saw those installs on hairshop.com - NOW THOSE ARE SOME GREAT INSTALLS!!!!!!!!!!!  I need to get that done!  Those are very undetectable.  To bad she isn't out here.  Christina didn't really show me any pictures.  But I keep seeing people on indeed.com or other websites say that they have gotten the hair extensions from her and that they are fantastic.  But who knows.  Maybe its her making different screen names and then saying that?  LOL LOL hahaha I am nuts.  I get paranoid with stuff like that.  You never know!  She originally quotes be $2500 but then went down to $2000.  She said any extra hair that I needed, it would be on her.  I guess she realized that the price was high.  I really want to know how much the hair is.  I'm not sure if I should pay the $2000K or not.  I definitely do not want to get a regular sew in weave cause those things itch way to much.  The clip ons are good, but I kinda just want something quick and will last until my hair is growing out.

LOL Oh yes I have seen that true life episode.  UGHHHHHH I cannot deal with those accents.  She has one of those accents, but she is nice hahaha.  I use to have a pretty bad NY accent, but its mellowed out now that I've been in Jersey for 10 years.  Speaking of SI - that is one place that when you grow up there and live there, you never get out.  Its like everyone is "stuck" there.

Let me know what the school says.  I'm curious.

I hate nights like that! I usually always wake up at least once during the night and then always around like 7-730am just a little before I have to get up. That's always annoying. I think I get paranoid that my alarm isn't going to go off so I somehow wake myself up!

Yeah, I'm going to email the school in China Town back. Hopefully we can get somewhere with them.

LOLOL!! That's weird that she wouldn't give you the price. I feel like stylists need to be as open as possible. You don't want to make your client feel uncomfortable. If I asked her and she didn't give an answer, it probabaly would've made me feel uncomfortable. I mean it doesn't matter that she doesn't sell just the hair, you want to know how much of an install charge there is! Yeah, 8 months is for sure true. I posted about how long Bohyme would last and Sherrie said about 6 months for blonde but sometimes longer for other colors. $400 for the maintenance isn't bad. I really hope she isn't paying $1,600 for that hair though! IMO, that wouldnt make sense especially if she only requires a $700 deposit. Where would the other money be coming from?

Yeah, I really don't think they have worked on anyone high end. The price seems like a lot. Did she have any pics of her clients? In a few of those photos I don't think they look very well blended. If you go to yourhairshop.com take a look at Kristin's work. Those are some undectable extensions!! LOL at her accent! Did you ever see on MTV True Life I'm a Staten Island Girl? OMG!! Those accents were so  LOLDeadShockedOuch. I'm happy I don't have too much of a NY accent!! Just with some words but otherwise, I try to hide it!

Ughhhh I hate Mondays to.  I could not sleep for the life of me last night and it took forever for me to fall asleep.  I think I may have slept like 3 hours.  Not sure how I will last a full day!!!!!  What beach do you usually go to?  I haven't been to a beach in over 2 years - can you believe that?

Well that's somewhat good news that the school in Chinatown is approved to do it.  Maybe they haven't offered the course because of lack of interest?  Maybe if we tell them that a few people are interested, they will offer the course.  I hope so, I really want to take the course.  There's definitely a way around it.

I nearly had a heart attack when she gave me the price LOL.  I had hot flashes!  The hair definitely comes pre tipped.  The hair that was there was already pre tipped.  I wonder how much the hair is alone.  I asked her that, but she wouldn't disclose.  She said she doesn't sell the hair by itself, only the hair with the installation.  I also agree with you, there is no way that the hair will last a lifetime.  Some of her clients say that the hair is still in good shape after 8 months which I believe, but definitely not for years.  The hair that she is installing would be 18 inches.  The maintenance price of $400 is her taking down the hair completely from what I gathered and then reinstalling a new coil.  It has to be that because you should keep the coil in for more than 12 weeks anyway because of all the hair shedding.

hahahaha I agree with that quote.  Please in my opinion, they haven't worked on any celebrities!  They would definitely disclose them since it would bring more business.  Also, a lot of celebrities have no problem saying that they use lace front wigs and/or hair extensions.  I still cannot believe that her website and that other website are exactly the same.  Makes me wonder if I should go and get my hair done LOL.  She is a nice girl though.  And has the craziest SI accent I've ever heard!

Good Morning!!

I already have a case of the Mondays.. lol!! Aw, well at least you get one day to yourself. Better than nothing at all. It sounds like you have a lot on your hands but it's good that you're doing two things at one. I respect that! This weekend was so blah. That rain on Saturday was awful!! I just did some shopping but only a little because I'm pretty broke right now. I can't wait for next weekend.. assuming the weather is actually nice (that's what I heard too but who the heck knows), I will be at the beach!

I got an email back from the school in China Town. They are approved for the course but just not offering it. I'm going to see if there's some way one of the teachers there could teach us or help us out, something!!

Wow, $2,000.00 is a lot. Personally, I really feel like it's too much. There's no doubt in my mind that the hair she is using is probabaly very expensive but it still can't be used for years and years. I mean, what about shedding? The hair will eventually break down over the months. She's probabaly buying all the hair pre-tipped rather than tipping it herself. She could save money by buying it on wefts and then tipping them herself. She could save money for her clients.. and make extra money herself! How long is the hair she is installing? I guess the maintenance price isn't too bad. But I wonder if my maintenance she means just fix a few bonds at a time.. or if it's a full take down and re-install. I'm glad her hair looked nice. It looks nice in the pictures on her website as well.

That website thing is weird!! I wonder who copied who.. lol!! One thing that bothers me (this is on Christina's website and the other website) is this quote " I honor all of my clients' privacy, including models and actresses, so I would not advertise who I work on.". That sounds like a bunch of BS to me. I mean if they were doing a big shot, it's usually expected that you will show pics of them etc. It's a good way for you to get business.

Was Christina nice? I feel like it's hard to tell how these people will act in person from just reading their website.

Morning Melissa!

Didn't get a chance to get back in touch on Friday.  I ran for the hills on Friday! lol - Had to get outta here.  Unfortunately, I work on the weekends also Unhappy  Well Saturdays only.  I work my regular job Monday thru Friday and then on Thursdays and Saturdays I work at a spa.  Its a Medical spa.  I assist the doctors with laser hair removal, photo facials, botox, etc. and then I do the regular stuff such as facials, massage, chemical peels, etc.  Its very exhausting.  I definitely need a vacation.  Did you do anything exciting this weekend?  I'm sick of the rain, this weekend is suppose to be nice!

I'm about 30 miles from Staten Island.  We are fairly close to each other!  I'm going to try and contact the department of education later on this afternoon and find out about this natural hairstyling license.  I don't think NJ has it, but I will find out.  I have the number to Jersey so I'll call there as well.

Ok so I met with Christina Saturday.  She quoted me $2000 for the hair and the install!!!!!!  She said that my hair is extremely thick and I will need a lot more hair than the average.  It makes sense since I do really have thick hair.  She charges $400 for the maintenance which will take place every 8 to 12 weeks.  She showed me some of the hair bundles and they seemed pretty nice.  Her extensions looked awesome.  She was wearing russian wavy and they looks extremely natural.  She uses tiny beads to clamp on the hair, sounds like micro links to me.  What do you think of the price?

Also, check this out.  I was researching her method online and came across this.  www.jaiainc.us/quality.html    If you check out the About Me Page, FAQ's, Quality, etc.  on this page, they match her FAQ's, Quality, About Me, etc. on her own website at www.hairgoddessofny.com.  I'm guessing she copied everything off of this website or vice versa.  How crazy is that - I was disturbed LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ah, Thursday is a long day for you! But at least it's Friday. Do you work on the weekends? I don't so I always look forward to them :). Too bad it will be raining all weekend.. I want to go to the beach already!!

Yeah, blah! I agree that we should look into contacting the department of ed. There has to be some other way around it. I mean, it's just not fair. I'm wondering if maybe there's a school in NJ that offers it? Either way, we must find a way!

Yeah, there is a lot of competition in beauty. I love makeup but I don't feel like going through all the hassle to fight my way to the top. I feel like when you really have to fight for something, it sometimes takes the passion and the enjoyment out of it. I'd much rather just do makeup on myself and the occasional friend or family member and enjoy it rather than have to stress about it.

Yeah, you're not too far from SI right? I have family in South NJ and we always pass through to SI to get there. I think it's the easiest way from where I am. I live in Brooklyn. I guess kinda in the middle? I'm about 20-25 mins away from the city (only a few miles but of course with the traffic, etc it's longer) and about the same distance from SI. The highway is only like a two minute drive from my house.

I think the method she does is the micro-links. I think I called it micro-rings before but I'm pretty sure the correct term is links. They also have micro-tubes which are longer. I've never heard of the microchet method. I just looked it up and it seems like there is no tool involved but stringing the extension on to your own hair. I was reading Christina's website and she mentions using "tiny cylinder coils" so I'm guessing it is the micro-ring. There are two types; the regular ones have grooves on the insides like a screw and the other ones have a silicone liner in the middle. I don't know which one she uses. I'd prefer to go with the silicone as I think a groove might pull and be harsh on the hair.

With the d-lux hair I made my own clip-ins. I purchased the wefts and the clips and just did it myself.

I think that when Christina mentions the maintenance she means a full take down of the hair and a re-install. I was reading her website and myspace and I'm pretty sure that's what she means. So $500.00 isn't too bad but I also don't think the hair will last a lifetime. All of this hair is human hair and even the own hair on our head doesn't last a life time. Virgin or not.. the hair will still break and start to get old. Isn't that why we get haircuts? I mean I think 99.9% of people don't have the same hair they had on their head as infants or kids on their head right now. Eventually, it does get cut off. I'm sure her hair lasts awhile but I still think you'd have to purchase new hair after time. Especially if you're going to style it with heat.

But... it's only $500.00 for the re-install that means she she's charging you $1000.00 for the hair. That's a lot! Who knows. I'm not even sure what the going rate is in salons. They could be charging $2,000 or $3,000.

Hey Melissa!  Didn't get a chance to respond yesterday.  Thursdays are crazy for me, I work both at the insurance company and then at the spa till 10 PM!  Anyway, I did some further research regarding that license.  The last course that was offered was in a school in Jamaica Queens.  At the moment there is no school offering this course.  I think we may have just missed it.  A girl just finished a few months ago at the Queens school.  I think the next avenue is to maybe call the state department of education and see what they say.  There's got to be a way to attain the license.  Its impossible.

The school I was looking into for the cosmetology course is a pretty well known respected school in NJ.  I think thats why the price is so high.  I went to Christine Valmy in NJ for the esthetics course and spend $7000.  The cosmetology course there was $10K I believe.  The tuition for cosmetology seems to be going up constantly, probably cause of the demand.  Yes you can make a lot of money in it, BUT there is a ton of competition out there and you have to for the most part start at the bottom.

As far as Christina - I'm having the consultation at her home.  She does travel, but I'd rather go out there.  Do you think that is the method she does - the micro rings?  I thought it was microchet - I have no idea.  I'm relatively new with the hair extensions.

As far as the D Lux hair extnesions - did you make the clip ons or did you purchase them straight from the site with the clips on already?

Where in NY do you live?

I know right!! How weird. The cake sounds like it's going to be awesome! I love fancy cakes. Too bad you have to eat them after you spend all that money.. lol!! Oh well as long as it tastes good LOL.

I knooooooow! I am so bummed but GOOD! We can be determined together and we will find a place lolol!! I had no idea cosmo school was THAT expensive. I for sure could not imagine shelling out so much money for something that might end up being useless. I've heard that they don't even touch on extensions so where is the point in that?

Ok, good. I'm glad you're going for the consultation. She deff does seem like a really nice girl so I wouldn't have any worries there. The micro-rings shouldn't be too damaging at all since really it's just a ring.. no glue or heat or acetone. Yeah, who knows about the 613. I mean it might sound crazy to have it in virgin but then again isn't it crazy that there's all this human hair floating around?? LOL. I still wonder where it comes from but whatever... LOL.

I wore the d-lux with my clips in for a few months. I didn't wear them everyday usually on weekends. The hair is still in great condition so I think it should last awhile. Also, when you're not wearing the hair 24/7 I feel like it's not as harsh on the hair. I'd think if you were wearing it 24/7 with a regular install you could probabaly get maybe 6 months or so out of it.

Where are you going for the consultation? At her house?

Hi there!  Its been so hectic here today.  Sorry its taken me so long.  I cant believe your mom's birthday is in August also LOL.  This is getting to weird now!!!!!!!  I'm in the midst of getting some pictures to have them put on the cake.  I'm ordering the cake from this place by me.  This woman is always on the Food Network channel.  They do amazing work.  The cake is going to be like $500 bucks Shocked but it will be worth it!  Anyway, I cannot believe that both those schools do not offer the class.  Its impossible that noone is offering the course.  I don't think it would be on the website if it didnt exist!  I'm going to have to do some research tonight when I get home.  There's just no way.  Trust me, we will find a place LOL.  I really don't want to have to do the cosmetology class.  I already spent like 7,000 on the esthetics course and the cosmetology course is another $17,000.  Don't know if I want to even spend that kind of money especially the way the economy is.

I wonder who does Christina's hair!?  I'm curious to see the hair that she has available.  I'm def going for the consultation and I'll let you know how it goes.  I just want to wear it for a few months to give my hair a "break" and let it grow.  If she says she has the 613, thats pretty good.  I've heard a lot of good things about her so I'm sure she is being pretty honest.  What shade of blonde are you now?  I know you said you were dark and then going gradually back to the blonde.

I think I may order from that website.  How long has the DLux brand lasted?

Don't worry about the license - I will find a place LOL.  Trust me, when I put my mind to something, I make it happen hahaha!

Karissa,

Bad news! :(. I called the center in Queens and they don't offer it anymore :(. And the other school in China Town says they never did offer it. Blah, I knew this was too good to be true. I am SO upset.

There has to be some other way around it. I mean how can they tell us we need this liscense and then the schooling is no where to be found!!

Hey!

Good Morning.

That's weird.. my mom's birthday is in August too, lol!!

Yeah, I'm not looking forward to working full time and going to school but oh well. Sometimes you have to do it and just get it over with it. If you really want to go to Cosmo school, you should! I believe once you have your cosmo liscense you can do extensions too. I wouldn't mind but I just don't have the extra time to spend 1,000 hours there. Plus, I guess since I'm not really motivated nor want to learn color, nails, etc that makes me more against it lol! I believe I read that with a natural hairstyling liscense you can do light cuts such as shaping etc. So maybe not a full haircut but it seems like you'd be able to shape the natural hair as well as the extensions. Yup, so many women are wearing lace front wigs! I have a lot of Jewish women in my area and it seems that they favor just wigs in general. So having women in my community who actually already use wigs is for sure an advantage.

I sent an email to the school in China Town and haven't heard back from them. I'll see if I can give them a call today. I'm the secretary at my job so I hate to call someone and then have to put them on hold. Especially when it's a call not releated to my job.

The last email I got from Christina was about the 613 hair being virgin. I'm not 613 yet but it's my desired color for the future. She says it's still virgin and she doesn't offer fancy colors (pink, purple, etc) because those cannot be virgin. I don't know though, I just think virgin 613 hair with a lot of length to it would be way too hard to find. Darker virgin hair IMO is easier to find as there are more women with dark hair especially in the asian and indian communities which is where a lot of this hair comes from.

I'd go to the consultation and see what happens. I mean it's free so it's not like you have to pay anything or have to get the extensions. Plus, you can check out the hair she has in stock and also take a look at her hair. She says she is currently wearing a full head.

My hair took a long time to grow out but it was worth it. I had damaged my hair with bleaching so I cut it up to my collar bones in the summer of 2007. It's just now reaching the really long stage. I hope by the end of the year it will be at my desired length (or at least close to it). It doesn't really like it took two years but I guess it did. I think after it got past the really short point and I enjoyed wearing it down I just embraced that and didn't think so much about it growing. You can also take biotin, that's supposed to help promote stronger hair growth which can also speed up the process. Not by much but at least it's something.

Oh and yes, I have ordered several times from yourhairshop.com. I've used the d-lux hair before, not the tease. I love the d-lux hair, pretty good quality.

Good Morning!

Sorry it took me so long to reply.  I'm planning my mother's birthday party in August and am trying to get some ideas together for the cake decorator.  This cake is going to be amazing!  Anyway, I actually enrolled twice in cosmetology school and then backed out LOL.  I decided to just do skin care and makeup and I got laid off from my previous job in June while I was in school.  I finished in 6 months as opposed to 11 months because I was laid off from work.  Its not easy going to school 4 nights a week while having a full time job.  I may eventually go back and get my cosmetology license as well just to learn hair cutting.  I'm not interested in hair color, but I think it would be fantastic to get the natural hairstyling license and then be able to cut the extensions as well.  Hair extensions are ALWAYS in demand and you can definitely make money in it.  I would love to learn how to make the lace front wigs, a lot of women are wearing them these days also.  A great alternative to extensions.

I didn't get a chance to contact the school yesterday, I got so busy at work and didn't get a chance to call.  Did you get any other information?  Did Christina get back in touch with you about the hair?  I may still go there Saturday for the consultation and to see some of the hair bundles.

My hair is a little above shoulder length, I would love to have my hair mid back.  This is why I want the extensions, BUT of course I want to go to a good person so that my hair doesn't get damaged in the process.  You are soooooooooo lucky to have your hair long.  How long did it take for it to grow out?  Is your hair the 613 color?  And she says she has it and its virgin?  Thats hard to believe!

I work for a real estate company, full time as well. I was always debating about whether or not to go to cosmo school but it's so much time that I really don't want to dedicate right now. Plus, I'm not so much interested in coloring and cutting. Hair extensions is so much more exciting and fun for me. Plus, I feel like there will always be a large demand for them. I'm also condidering learning how to make wigs.

Yeah, she deff seems very nice and polite. Someone else may have been snotty or questioned why I had so many questions.  The only other question I asked if she would have 613 blonde available. She said yes but I find that hard to believe as 613 is one of the lighest blondes before pure white. I'm not sure how easy that would be to find in virgin hair. She is saying that all her hair is virgin.

I agree, her pictures do nothing for me either. I think some of the hair even looks ratty in one or two of the pictures.

Go to www.yourhairshop.com and look at the tutorials. There you can see how Kristin (the owner) does some really beautiful and neat bonds. Too bad they're in California. Her prices are really cheap too, I think the most expensive individuals are $699 and that's for bohyme. I'm wondering if she just get it's cheap because she owns a salon. I'm not sure. Another user on here told me that it's hard to get bohyme at a discount unless you order a large amount so I'm not sure.

Right now I'm not using anything. I used the clip-ons for awhile but as my hair got longer I just started wearing it natural. My hair isn't perfect but I do love it! Plus it's much easier to go without the clip ins. I'm also inbetween hair colors right now (going back to blonde from dark) so my hair is a mix of colors. Maybe in the future I'd wear clip-ins again but for now I'm enjoying just seeing how long my natural hair is!

Yes I'm at work unfortunately ughhh!  I work at an insurance company full time and then work at a spa twice a week.  I def wouldn't mind going to school for the natural hairstyling in September.  I just finished Esthetics school in December, and def could use a break from the state testing!!

Christina seemed very nice.  Did she get back to you with any other information regarding the hair?  She has sample bundles in her home?  I have an appt for a consultation on Saturday but not sure if I want to go yet, I will let her know by today or tomorrow morning the latest.  THe pictures on her website do absolutely nothinig for me.  I would prefer head on and close up pictures myself.

So right now you are using clip ons?

No prob! Are you at work? I am... bleh!! Great, I'm excited to hear what they tell you. And totally! That would be awesome to go with someone I was already friendly with. For me though, I'd be looking to start in September. I have a lot going on this Summer so I might be a little too tied up. Besides, I want to make sure I get the most out of it, you know?

She's very nice. She doesn't really sound hesistant. She said after I looked at the sample bundles she has on hand, she could also give me clients to speak with. Personally, I'd like to see close up pictures. I saw the before and after gallery. Some installs look better than others.

hey you!  I was at lunch Tongue.  I am going to be calling those schools by this afternoon and I'll let you know what I find out.  Maybe we can go together.  I would love to get this license as soon as possible.  Ohhhh - christina has her own website.  www.hairgoddessny.com - she has some pictures - before and after but its kind of tough to tell what kind of job she did.  I've heard so many good things about her though.  Her website definitely does not say where she gets the hair from though.  Was she hesitant about telling you?  I personally would like to know myself as well.  Her website says that a deposit of $700 for the hair alone is required.  Sounds about the same price as the bohyme hair but what do I know - I'm fairly new with this!  What is your impression of her?  I would like to ask her some additional questions myself.

BTW you are silly about the mannequin not talking to you LOLLOL
