I know we do these every so often but with the seasons changing I was curious to see what others are using. That`s all.

I really don`t do anything different. I live in the south on the Gulf Coast and our winters are so mild and short I don`t change my routine that much.

right now i am using nature`s gate aloe vera treatment shampoo and suave aloe vera conditioner. it was actually an accident that they both happened to be aloe vera. anyways, by the suggestion of uzma i am using olive oil as a coating on my hair before i shampoo. i shampoo and condition every other day. then, of course, i let my hair air dry.

I use a henna shamppo for brown hair and from time to time a deep conditioning henna mask.

I wash it mostly every day, sometimes every other day

I use olive oil as a pre-wash on slightly damp hair, sometimes leaving this on overnight and sleeping on a towel.

I wash every third day with Kerastase Satin Bath 3 (this is a REALLY moisturising shampoo and it does clean the scalp as well).

Then I condition with a 50:50 mix of PhytoKarite and Phyto Sesame conditioners, leaving it on for at least an hour.

After rinsing off the conditioner I use a leave-in conditioner. At present it is Phyto 9 and I blend this with avocado oil & sandalwood oil. I let the hair dry naturally.

Finally, before I go out into the wind & cold I coat the tips with neat shea butter, put it in a ponytail and wrap in a scarf.

Totally obsessed or what?

Uzma,

how long is your hair right now? Mine is shoulderlength and I`m thinking to let it grow to a few inches below my shoulders and then get a few layers or so.

another idea is letting it grow to mid-thigh all the same length, what do you think?

My hair is light brown with some waves

Hi Caro

My hair is shoulder-length too, and has had layers cut into it about 6 months ago.
The layers made it more manageable and less heavy. They also gave it a nice shape that "hugs" my face and because they are growing out, the hair between mt scalp and ears is a lot fuller - it has a nice total effect.
I have decided to let my hair grow to it`s longest possible length and not cut it again - ever.

With regard to your hair (I wish I could see/feel it to get a better idea), I would suggest having the layers only if it is heavy and unmanageable. Then grow it to below your shoulders...then bra length...waist length....and at that point decide if you can cope with going thigh length.
If the answer is yes, and your hair is in good condition, than I would personally leave the grown out layers as that mimics the natural pattern of hair length variation.
If you are prone to split-end damage than the one-length option is suitable. You can have a one length cut and get "dusting" trims subsequently.

Good luck with your hair and let us know what you decide (hope you grow it long - I think it`s more beautiful that way).

Love

Uzma

Hey! I used to be a product junkie, but now my hair is really short, so I don`t really have to use too much....I wash every two or three days (a good idea for anyone cuz washing too much strips the hair of natural oils and dries it out much quicker- especially with curly hair like I have) with L`Oreal ColorVive (just a tiny bit works- I color, and so I dont` want to use too much & strip the color out.) This or any very gentle shampoo works for me- these days I`m not very picky. For a conditioner I use a 50/50 (roughly) blend of CurlVive and CitreShine Moisturizing, maybe once or twice a week. I dunno if its the same for anyone else out there, but I`ve found that its possible to OVERcondition. To style I use a little bit of Tressa Brace gel for a smoother look (I dunno if any of you can find this stuff, but if you can, GET IT!!!! In years of using gel, I`ve never found anything better!), or Frieda Dream Curls to get it curlier (also a great product), and then finish with a little bit of CitreShine finishing spray (I know I`ve written a bunch of posts about the stuff already, but I can`t recommend it enough). Such are the perks of having really short hair- I spend about 1/20th of the time and effort on it that I did when it was longer :)

that differs, how longer my hair gets how more managable it is. it`s wavy ans the weight of it when it`s longer keeps the waves down so that I don`t need procucts to keep them under control

Hey Turquoise girl - I use Nature`s Gate too! They are one of the few companies who don`t put any pterochemicals in their produts. i use the Nature`s Gate Aloe Shampoo and peppermint Conditioner...I alternate the NG Conditioner with Aveda Elixir as the mint really gets my scalp producing lots of oil if i use too much. I love the way it makes my scalp feel and I have had no problem with flakes this winter.
I have also been following some of Uzma`s recipes (thanks uzma) I am sitting with olive oil and a pinch of eucalyptus oil in may hair as I type this. off to the showers I go! I like Aubrey organics too.

Hey Sophie,
I am a product junkie with really fine hair too. Where do you find the Alterna Life products? I haven`t run across them yet. I have been having good results with the Progain line. Best ever.

Hi DemoDoll; You can get Alterna products at your friendly neighborhood Salon, But is the Progain part of thr Rogain family, or is that a whole different deal?

I also love a product by "claypac" called, V-cream. Its a serious volumizing product and a little dab will do ya.:D

Actually I just buy the Progaine stuff at Eckerd. I alternate between the volumizing shampoo and the clarifying shampoo (I live in south Florida so humidity is an oil producing problem). There is a conditioner but I don`t need it. For other products I use Tigi`s Superstar along with that new Wella spray gel, then some Vavoom hairspray (not much). This has been working better for me than anything I have tried in quite a while. I am trying to grow out an ultra short crop. Right now I have an inverted bob with the longest point just above chin level, light layering. This regimen holds pretty well, even in the humidity.

I am interested in the Alterna products and V-cream too though (always trying new things hoping for a miracle). I found some websites that sell them so I`ll let you know how they do.

Thanks.
