Back To Black (need pro help)

Im in need of a professional opinion, my natural color is a very light brown, and I was using a 3 dark brown on my hair at home for about a year (which turns my hair almost black) Until recently I got my color stripped and went a tiny bit lighter. Which really just looks like ive had some warm high lights and orangey roots. (I was in the salon for 6 hours!!) Anyways im not too happy with the results. My question is, can i use the number 3 dye and 20% volume peroxide I used before I had the colour taken out, the treatment didnt really work so my hair is like a dark brown with lighter roots. Is also seems dry and damaged now, should I wait a while before coloring again? I dont wanna mess up my hair, please help :(
