    Posted: January 27 2003 at 5:48am
Hi all, I`m m/18 and I need to get my hair dyed and styled, I`m growing it, it`s a bit below collar length at the back, though it`s only about 5 inches on the top.
I`ve natually got lightish brown hair, with slightly pink skin and freckles.
I have no idea what style to go for, nor what colour (I`ve been copper, and blonde, though not really really blonde) to go for, any ideas? By the way, since I want to grow my hair to shoulder length or so, I want to lose as little length as possible (preferably none).
Any ideas?

Almost forgot to add, my face shape is somewhere between Rectangular and heart-shaped, it`s mostly rectangular, but gets thinner nearer the chin.

I`m not sure what you want for a color. Since you are growing it out, maybe go back to your natural color(or, as close as possible). That is what I did.
What color is it now?
Also, since you are growing it out, get dustings instead of trims. That way, over time your hair will slowly even out without losing length.
You can email me and I will help you out more

It is my natural colour at the moment (medium to light brown).
I dont want to get it cut (it hasn`t been cut since the middle of last year), but my parents are on at me to get it cut into a style, cause they recon it looks untidy (they may be partially right).
Either that, or if you can reccomend a style that I can do that looks neat..
(I would e-mail you, but I can`t view it)

How long do you plan to grow it out to? If your answer is mid-back or longer, I wouldn`t suggest dyeing it, since it damages your hair. Unless you want highlights? That is better than all-over dyeing.

Hope this helps

I want to grow it to shoulder length or a little lower (though mid-back might be cool ;) ). The main reson I`m dyeing it is that my hair is rather oily, and dyeing it is the only thing that strips the oil out.
As to style, remember, I`m a guy, I dont think butterfly clips would be appropriate ;)

OMG! I`m so sorry! I didn`t see where you said you were a guy. LOL. I will go back and edit that...
Maybe try a semi-perm. color?
I don`t know what you can do for a style. If you post at the men`s board maybe someone can help you over there.

Before you color try these for the oily hair.

~~~~~~~~~Option 1~~~~~~~~~~~~
Try using a volumizing shampoo that will help lift your hair off the scalp more. If your hair is longer try using a boar bristle brush to brush those oils down the hair shafts so they don`t stay at the scalp. Don`t scrape the scalp too much or you might stimulate it into producing more oil. Or try a clarifying shampoo once in awhile.
~~~~~~~~~Option 2~~~~~~~~~~~~
Rinse with vinegar diluted with water after you shampoo.

Try 1/3 cup Vin & 2/3 cup water. If that`s too harsh try 1/4 V 3/4 W.

~~~~~~~~~Option 3~~~~~~~~~~~~
Only try this one if you`ve already tried the other 2.
If that doesn`t work the next time you shampoo mix in a small amount of baking soda into your shampoo glob. Make sure you mash it in so it doesn`t stay hard pebbles. Then use that glob as you would a normal glob of shampoo. Don`t use a lot of baking soda, try between a pinch and a teaspoon. If you use too much it might make your hair too dry. Don`t do this one too often. This is a last resort.
Lol, no offence taken AmandaPanda, dont worry about it ;-). (by the way, what is your e-mail?)
And PurpleBubba, I dont know if any of them would work, but I`ve been using Herbal Essences for Oily Hair for like, 2.5 months, and it hasn`t helped, I`ve always had oily hair, and nothing has worked except dying it, but I dont mind that, it`s fun!
