QuoteReplyTopic: Hair dryer help.... Posted: March 04 2003 at 12:33pm
I just came across something that is new to me, so I was wanting to see if anyone else knows anything about this. I was reading an article on the net and they talked about an infrared hairdryer. I did some research on the net and found some information on them.... but of course it was all marketing info. Supposidly the infrared heat is suppose to dry the hair from the inside out causing no damage. Anyone know if this is true or have tried this??
Thanks Sophie, but this is different from the ion dryers. I have an ion dryer from Create Ion (Bio Ionic) and it's wonderful. I've had it for 2 years. I just stumbled on this Infrared hair dryer when reading an article researching hair straightening for a friend.
I love my dryer. I think it does dry my hair a little faster than conventional ones, but there isn't a huge difference. It is quieter than conventional dryers. One thing that really stood out when I first got it is that the air it blows feels very hot. I was very concerned b/c my hair doesn't respond well to being exposed to too much heat. I contacted the company by email and one of the top guys called me back. I posed my concern to him and he stated something to the effect that the heat wouldn't damage b/c of the conditioning ions. He was basically right. My hair doesn't get damaged any easier because of it. I do still get splits, but I guess that's normal. I will definately buy another one when this one finally dies (unless the infrared dryer proves to be better). The major downfall of this dryer is the cost. I paid, if i remember correctly, $79 for it. I also bought one of the round brushes that has an ion attracting core. It was $30. I accidentally broke the brush and need to get a new one. I could definately tell a difference when using that brush. Seemed to knock down the static in my hair quite a bit.
Here's the web site for the company... just in case you didn't have it and would like to know more. http://www.bioionic.com/home.html
do you feel it's true that the intense heat isn't a problem? i have an ion dryer from sharper image and i'm not using it right now because it gets so hot, i was worried.

I am currently using the ion dryer by bio-onics at my station right now. I am a true blue Salono dryer user and this is the forst time to switch.
First of all, it is much much much quieter than my salono.
Second, in my own experience I have noticed that it does dry hair faster if the hair is chemically treated. If it is healthey virgin hair it does not dry faster.
(and I do use the ionic brushes that go with it)
Happy Drying!!
