Thanks for that info! I think I need to eat more nuts! :)

You mentioned tuna- I heard you're supposed to avoid eating lots of tuna because it has a high level of mercury. You're only supposed to have it once a month.
Sigh... why did human beings dump chemicals into the water for so many years? (And I suppose some still do)

Uzma that's great that you can get so much protein daily! I really try to get more than 30...but I bet on average I only get 30.
Supergrover - i think you asked about sources? Uzma listed the best sources. My main sources are cottage cheese - 1 cup gives a whopping 26 grams, tuna (26 grams per can) peanut butter 8 grams per serving. I also drink a mixture of wheatgrasses and protein in the morning that has about 13 grams of protein.
Lysine, Biotin and zinc are all cell builders that I take extra doses of and of course, vitamin C, all of the B's and A and E. Ialso take an Omega 3.
I have heard good thing about HF37 too.

I am a runner, so the vitamin regimen started becasue of that. The benefits to my hair have been great though!

I don't think protein ON your hair can help it any, just IN it.

Protein shampoos and conditioners usually are heavy and weigh hair down, which can cause more breakage. :(

thanks for that advice. i definitely don't have the best diet, but i do eat a pretty good amount of protein. I NEVER used to eat fish, but i suddenly took a liking to it, and for the past 6 months have been eating quite a lot of it. i also eat a fair amount of other proteins, BUT i must say, a lot of it is frozen! ugh! do you think that takes away the benefits? i am taking vitamins regularly...are there certain vitamins that I should make sure i am taking? i know hair products don't fix hair internally, but are there any other products that i should try to make it look better? can anyone tell me if i should be using protein? that one really has me stumped. some people talk about it transforming their broken hair, but that's not happening for me...or am i using it wrong, or using wrong kind??? again, i really appreciate everyone's help!

Hmm that does make sense.

Well, aside from beef, what other foods are high in protein? Or do you just drink protein drinks?

Thanks!

Very intelligent advice, Jacqui.

I'm a 60 gram a day girl.

You have mentioned all of the things that you put on the outside of your hair...These things can only help you if you are abusing it with blowdryers and color. It doesn't sound like you are abusing it any more than the usual person does. So this makes me think that you are not feeding it from the inside. I had very split hair years ago when I ate a terrible diet. Now I eat a very healthy diet and take vitamins. I make sure I get at least 30 grams of protein a day too. hair is made up of protein so you must eat plenty of it to make nice hair. Hair's growth rate is also affected by what you eat.

My hair is very strong and shines without the need for heavy use of product.

hope this helps.

I am SO confused as to what my hair care should be. Lots of protein??? Not too much protein...it will actually make hair worse??? Deep condition--moisturizing, protein, other?
I have crappy hair. It is thin, fine and straight. I have split ends whether or not I highlight/color, so I choose to highlight because it looks better ( I know it would be even better off if I did nothing to it, but believe me, it would STILL be damaged). I have been using pureology, which I heard from lots of different sources is really great. I tried cat protein (only used once a week) for a little over a month. I use Frederic Fekkai Protein RX only once a month (i didn't use them together). I am trying to do things that are good for my hair, apart from the bad like blow drying...but the bad I'm doing hasn't become any worse, yet my hair is worse. I have more broken hairs (that stick up about an inch) than ever! The split ends don't seem worse, but the broken hairs are worse than ever! What am I doing wrong? I know I will never have gorgeous hair, but I just don't want it to be totally tweaked. I know it would be great if I didn't blow dry, but I cannot give that up...plus I have always done it and not had the awful breakage at the roots that has been happening recently. Sorry this is so long....I am quite desperate. TIA for any advice you can give me.
