It really depends on what exactly you are referring to. Hair extensions should not be installed longer than three months. It could be less depending on you installation choice. However, the actual hair can last several installations depending on the quality of hair you choose.
Ive been a "hair extensionist" since the 90s . (God I feel old.) Hair extensions last around 3 months. People will claim up to 6 months but with experience I find keeping anything in that long is not good. After 3 months it needs to be maintained .The hair between the point of connection and scalp will dread. Good quality hair however can last a long time.It can be reused over and over.

Isaac was right, it will depend on the hair quality and how you use it, for top grade human remy hair clips in, you can use one year if you use it in proper way.

Quality of hair is key along with the expertise of the person putting them in. If they are fusion it depends how fast your hair grows, whether you have the hair reused after you have them removed and the condition of your own hair and scalp. Some people can't tolerate fusion hair very long - others can wear it up to several weeks or months. There are a lot of variable to consider but everyone so far has covered the bases nicely.
It really does depend of the quality of hair. Hair extensions come in different grades, where AAA remy hair is the best remy hair available. This can last over 6 months and still look great with proper care.
